Dr. Fauci Doesn’t Understand Federalism

No matter how bad he wants it or thinks it is necessary, Dr. Fauci’s wishes must not override our Constitution and system of government.

President Donald Trump on Friday was facing new pressure from the nation’s top infectious disease expert to call for a nationwide stay-at home order to keep the coronavirus from spreading and making the projected death toll even worse.

In his strongest comments yet, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has become a prominent face in the fight against the pandemic, is now saying that he “doesn’t understand” why every state isn’t under a stay-at-home order — a move Trump continues to resist, arguing those decisions should be left to the states.

“I don’t understand why that’s not happening,” Fauci told CNN at a town hall Thursday night, when asked about some states having not issued stay-at-home orders. “The tension between federally-mandated versus states rights to do what they want is something I don’t want to get into, but if you look at what’s going on in this country I just don’t understand why we’re not doing that — we really should be.”

Trump is right to resist this. Clearly Dr. Fauci has a totalitarian mindset that must be rejected.

Those are Jared’s stockpiles, not yours.  Who doesn’t understand what here?

The real question should be to Dr Fauci:  Why have we not had enforced quarantines for all the virals that have caused more deaths and sicknesses than CV19?

One answer, the cure should never be worse than the sickness.  How many people will lose their livelihoods or even in the very best scenario lose their quality of life to this virus?  The answer will certainly be more than double the number of deaths, probably more than quintuple even the (realistically) estimated number of CV19 deaths without the quarantines.

I have read several articles on why we should not compare the flu to CV19 and there are a lot of holes:

    1) Their biggest reason is that CV19 is ’10 times’ deadlier.  The truth is, we do not have that info yet.  The graphs all show estimates of flu deaths to contractions based on 100 years of history.  These numbers are based on contractions to deaths and would normally be pretty accurate.  The CV19 numbers are based on an amalgam of reported recoveries and contractions to deaths.  In addition, the number of reported deaths is concrete, but the number of contractions is heavily muddled because hospitals don’t have enough tests so they are telling the general public to stay home and not come in even if showing all symptoms of CV19 (much the same symptom list as other flu strains).  How can they even pretend to have ‘concrete’ numbers of contractions if testing is severely limited by supply of tests?  Yet they report both daily numbers of contractions and severe limitations on tests to confirm contractions as ‘facts’.  How?  The conclusion is that while death numbers will remain accurate, contraction numbers will be less and less accurate, thus inflated percentages.

    2) We don’t have the hospital capacity.  We don’t have the capacity to hospitalize all of our flu patients either.  The hidden question there is:  How many CV19 cases really need hospitalization?  I know we are limited, but the numbers pushed to heighten the scare effect are based on the total number of cases, not the number of people with severe enough symptoms to actually be hospitalized.

    3) My favorite, a large number of health workers self quarantine if they suspect they have CV19, reducing the number of health workers.  That circumstance is always present for any infectious disease, but it is the hype of danger of this virus that self fulfilled that prophecy.  That and mandated quarantine for those workers…

I am convinced CV19 is a dangerous killer, that it is new and so has no real treatment regimen yet.  I don’t believe shutting down the economy is a best practice means to fight it.  In fact, the stress induced by loss of livelihood will increase sicknesses and deaths.

I don’t believe up to the second reporting, complete with fear based numbers and potential inadequacies in healthcare are a best practice means of fighting it.  In fact, I believe it is a worst practice.  The proven statistics for placebo effects ranges from a positive 15-72% effectiveness.  In reality what this means is that people are ‘fooled’ into healing themselves.  Guess what fear of incurable death and inadequate healthcare (or toilet paper) has on people?  I think that belief that a virus is deadly increases the number of people who die.  People who don’t believe they will recover more often don’t by similar negative percentages to placebo effectiveness.  That effect is all in the human brain and this deadly hype will literally kill 15% or more of the people who believe they have CV19.

We can just wish the viruses away?  Maybe we should just get rid of the health insurance and the hospitals and just give people placebos.  Does this taste like aquarium cleaner to you?

I once had hope that jjf could have a rational abd intelligent debate.
But I was wrong. In fact, if jjf got any more stupid, he’d have to be watered twice a week.

Current Wisconsin numbers show that only ~20% of “positive” people are in the hospital, and that as of 4/3, only 475 (or so) hospital beds were required for CoViD19 patients.  Wisconsin has 5700 hospital beds available…..

Further, it’s been shown that NYC is conflating “died WITH CoViD19” and “died FROM CoViD19).  Big difference, but it fuels the “RUN!  HIDE UNDER YOUR BED” narrative.  Same reporting error is happening in Germany, too.

  6. jjf

I hope you and yours aren’t in a hospital bed by the end of the month, Dad29.  No visitors.

  7. dad29

Andrea Palm is still short about 940 deaths from her “1,000 could die” prediction of 3/24.  She has only 4 short days left to make good on her “RUN!!  HIDE UNDER YOUR BED!!!  VIRUS!!! warning.

    dud:

“Wisconsin’s top health leader said Tuesday that without more restrictions to limit human interaction, up to 1,000 people in the state could die in two weeks.”

The words “up to” are causing you problems and screwing up your math.  Try again.

  9. Mar

Le Roi, I’m not sure where you got you information, but that’s unknowable. No one knows how many lives are being saved with all the restrictions in place or if they were not in place.

  10. MjM

Nort barfs up FakeNewz: “The words “up to” are causing you problems…”

Naw, those words are confusing YOU because she never said them,

Not only did she not say those words, all those WI fake news huts, from local papers to local TV jerks, who regurgitated word for word (just like you) the original AP f’d up story, were too lazy to even check AP’s false number.

“Our experts are comparing our data with the Wuhan and Italy experiences to predict what is likely to happen here in Wisconsin. And if we continue on our current path, without implementing safer-at-home to flatten the curve, the models show us that we would likely have 22,000 wisconsinites who are positive for covid19 by April 8th and 440 to one-thousand-five-hundred deaths.” – WI-DHS Secretary-Designee Andrea Palm, March 24, 2020

Aside from the utter stupidity of basing WI on infection/death numbers from ground zero Wuhan and the 300,000 Chinese slave-importing Italy, a simple comparison of population density should have told the so-called “experts” that WI could NEVER have outcomes in any way similar. Italy has five times the population density of WI and the jurisdiction of Wuhan has more than twice the total WI population stuffed into 1/8 the size of WI.

But scarecrows gotta scare and Secretary-Designee Palm played her part nicely in her effort to defend Phony nEver’s silly edict.

MjM, facts never deter LeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeRoy from his appointed rounds as Troll-Leader (nor Jiffy as Troll Enlisted Man.)

LeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeRoy’s still kvetching about his meds being used–successfully–on other people, who are in danger of death.  LeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeRoy needs a bunch of dead people so he can blame Trump.

Unfortunately, “dead people” are not materializing at the rate Ms. Palm or Fauci predicted.  So maybe there’ll be some shootings, or something.

  12. Le Roi du Nord

    mjm:

Agreed, I stand corrected, and I’ll never again use fox for my news source.

Having said that, the “440 to one-thousand-five-hundred deaths” still isn’t the ““1,000 could die” prediction of 3/24” that dud claimed.  Guess he is wrong as well.

And trumps knockout drug still hasn’t been proven effective against covid19.

  13. Tuerqas

We can just wish the viruses away?  Maybe we should just get rid of the health insurance and the hospitals and just give people placebos.  Does this taste like aquarium cleaner to you?

Wow, do you know how to miss a point!  If we were playing darts in a bar you just hit the cash register 60 feet away on a 120 degree tangent.  (And yeah, go ahead and hit me with ‘The bars are closed!’  It will be so-o-o-o funny and original)

I don’t know of any Doctors that don’t acknowledge the level of effect a simple placebo has on people.  The results are not anecdotal, they are part of thousands of studies, some with multiple groups of, for example, a test drug, no drug and placebo pill.  There are studies of placebo vs nothing and placebo routinely hits that percentage range I referred to above.

Doctors will also acknowledge that people who believe they will die from a disease have much higher death rates than people who believe they will live from the having the same disease.  My conclusion was simply pointing that out.  If the media persists in calling this a more and more dangerous killer with no cure, more people will die than if they did the opposite.  If we voluntarily agree to seriously harm our entire economy, it fuels paranoia and belief that CV19 is the most dangerous killer we have ever faced and sets the stage for future repeats when the next ‘named’ virus hits…and self fulfills the prophecy of mass deaths and a destroyed economy.  (And our ‘responsible’ Gov’t would regretfully take over more and more of our freedoms in the name of health.

My point had absolutely nothing to do with replacing medicine with placebo, a truly asinine conclusion as you could have no placebo effect if everyone knew there was no actual medicine.  Do you intentionally misinterpret (I hope) or are you really just that stupid?

  14. jjf

Hey, I wasn’t the one who brought up placebos.

  15. Tuerqas

No, you just made a stupid, out of context comment about them.
