Almost 243,000 Concealed Carry Permits Issued in Wisconsin

Heh.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Nearly 243,000 people in Wisconsin hold a permit to carry a concealed gun.

A report from the state Department of Justice says about 34,000 permits were issued in 2014 — the third full year after the concealed carry law was approved by legislators.

So nearly 5% of Wisconsin’s population can now legally carry a concealed weapon and there haven’t been running gun battles in the street and it’s not the “Old West” on the streets of Eau Claire. It’s almost as if we proponents of concealed carry were completely correct.

I could have predicted that it wouldn’t result in “old west” chaos. In fact, I have predicted it many times. It just wasn’t going to make any difference. But advocates being correct? They probably also predict that it’s going to lower crime statistics. I doubt that very, very much.

There’s been a big brouhaha here in Texas lately over open carry, which, oddly enough, isn’t the law here. An open carry advocacy group was visiting a state legislator and got a little, um, testy when he said he wasn’t going to vote for it. Threats were made, security was called, and much controversy ensued. Said brouhaha then got a little extra gas when the new lieutenant governor (a former talk radio host and Tea Party favorite) said open carry wasn’t a Senate priority and that the votes weren’t there to pass it besides. Now, I’m almost positive the votes are in fact there (the Senate has 21 Republicans and 10 Democrats), so I’m not real sure what the live guv was talking about. Personally, I prefer open carry to concealed carry. I’d rather know who around me is packing.
