Good news. Again, with all of the requisite caveats about how this probably won’t stick.
Seoul (CNN)North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will shut down his nuclear test site in May and invite experts and journalists from South Korea and the United States into the country to ensure “transparency” around its closure, South Korea’s presidential office said Sunday.
It is the latest breakthrough on the peninsula ahead of a meeting between Kim and US President Donald Trump, who said Saturday that talks could take place within “three to four weeks.”A senior spokesman for South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Kim made the comments during a landmark summit Friday at the demilitarized zone between the two countries, when Kim became the first North Korean leader to step into South Korean territory since fighting ended in the Korean War in 1953.Kim told Moon during the summit that he had no intention of targeting the US or the South with nuclear weapons, the South Korean President’s office said Sunday.
Perhaps Kim and Moon deserve to be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize?
South Korean President Moon Jae-In said President Trump should receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Given Trump’s predecessor won the Prize after only a few months in office for doing nothing but creating optimism while the President has actually played an important role in dealing with North Korea, Moon is correct.
Unless, of course, you are a Never Trumper. Then President Trump could never be given credit for any accomplishment. Kind of like Walker derangement syndrome.
Ummm, I don’t have a gigantic problem with Walker. I have some issues with him, but not enough to sign a petition over. I do have gigantic issues with Trump, but have already expressed them. That being said, so far Kim and Moon appear to be doing a good job at having dialog to resolve the issues on their peninsula.
Would that be the nuclear test site the North Koreans collapsed with their last nuclear test?
By the way, the Israelis say they have proof the Iranian nuclear program continued in much the same way the North Korean program continued after the 1994 “dissolution” of the latter.
“Would that be the nuclear test site the North Koreans collapsed with their last nuclear test?”
I don’t know, Steve. What do you think?
The cynic would suggest that Kim is giving up his nuke program because most of it is buried in mountain rubble of his own making. OR that the ChiComs told him it’s over with because the radiation from that smoking crater is heading for PRChina.
Not hard for him to quit a program in those circumstances.
