Unexpected Entertainment at Yodeling Festival

I just love that they have a yodeling festival.
The fleet — the Swiss equivalent of Britain’s Red Arrows and the USA’s Blue Angels — were expected in Langenbruck, a municipality in north-western Switzerland that was the birthplace of Bider, the first aviator to cross the Alps in both directions.
According to the Patrouille Suisse’s official Twitter account, the planes were due to perform for 15 minutes from 11 a.m. The demonstration would have accompanied a memorial service and musical entertainment, Langenbruck’s official website said.
But it was attendees at the 31st Northwest Yodeling festival in nearby Mümliswil that instead watched the aerial acrobatics — about four miles away from the intended location.
According to military spokesman Daniel Reist, the F-5E Tiger II aircraft are not equipped with GPS technology.
He told CNN: ”Unfortunate circumstances led to this incident. Between Mümliswil-Ramiswil in the canton of Solothurn and Langenbruck are only a few kilometers.
“Preparations were carried out by looking at a map, the measurement of 1cm on the map equates to 1km – and this equates to five seconds flight time.”

Mitch Compares Himself to Obama

Sometimes, you gotta love Cocaine Mitch.

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell brushed aside a question about whether he was aware that two of his great-great-grandfathers were slave owners before the Civil War by comparing himself to former President Barack Obama.

‘You know, I find myself once again in the same position as President Obama. We both oppose reparations. And we both are the descendants of slave owners,’ he told reporters in the Capitol on Tuesday.

McConnell’s past family history was revealed by NBC News on Monday and he was asked if that affected his stance against paying reparations to the descendants of slaves.

The former president was also reported to be a descendant of slave owners.

One of Obama’s great-great-great-great grandfathers, George Washington Overall via his white mother, owned two slaves who were recorded in the 1850 census in Nelson County, Kentucky, the Baltimore Sun reported in 2007.

Herein lies one of the fundamental flaws with the concept of slavery reparations. Who pays and who gets paid? Does Obama have to pay himself?

The greatest reparations we can offer to any oppressed people is to create and maintain a just society.

Omar Lies

She just a propagandist for her Marxist cause.

Ilhan Omar admitted she wasn’t entirely truthful when she told high school students a story that was meant to exhibit the economic disparities black people in America face.

The representative from Minnesota told hundreds of students at Richfield High School last week in her home state that she witnessed an elderly black woman get detained for a weekend for stealing $2 bread for her ‘starving 5-year-old granddaughter.’

Omar told the 400 teenagers that the incident transpired five years ago when she was serving as a city councilwoman in Minneapolis.

‘I couldn’t control my emotions,’ Omar told students in describing that she screamed ‘bulls**t’ in court when the woman was fined $80 for the crime. ‘I couldn’t understand how a roomful of educated adults could do something so unjust.’

Omar admitted, however, that the story was embellished when it was pointed out that it shared a lot of similarities with a plot line in ‘Les Miserables.’

She told The Washington Post, she may have ‘flubbed’ some of the fact.

‘She might have had a prior [arrest],’ Omar said of the ‘sweet, old’ African American woman. ‘I’m not sure.’

‘The details might not have all matched, but that’s what I remember,’ the first hibjab-wearing U.S. congresswoman said.

City officials in Minneapolis said police aren’t permitted to arrest shoplifters unless there was indications of violence or additional crimes. They added that those a=caught shoplifting are usually sentenced to attend a three-hour class.

Just like AOC… it’s not about truth or honesty. It’s about how she feels and the message she is trying to convey.

Wives Killing Husbands

What’s going on out there!?!?

A West Virginia woman has admitted to fatally stabbing her husband in the back with a 14-inch decorative dagger while the two were roughhousing as a part of sexual foreplay.

The Huntington Herald-Dispatch reports 49-year-old Jennifer Lynn Via was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter in the 2017 death of Thomas Via, who was stabbed in the heart. Via’s sentence may be reduced at a hearing next month.

Via was initially charged with first-degree murder after telling authorities a range of inconsistent stories, including one in which her husband slipped on water and fell into the dagger. Defense attorney Kerry Nessel said the couple had watched “Kung Fu movies” and it led to foreplay that involved getting violent and playing with weapons.

A woman was allegedly trying to shoot someone in a road rage incident in Alabama when she ended up shooting her husband instead, authorities said.

The alleged road rage altercation took place at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday on a highway in Dodge City and carried over to a home in Bremen, according to the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office.

Erica Cole was trying to shoot an unidentified person, according to the sheriff’s office, but instead a bullet struck her husband, Nicholas Cole, in the head.

Reminds me of the story of General Custer accidentally shooting his own horse in the head while hunting.

Holocaust Denier Sacked

Wow. His ignorance is only eclipsed by his antisemitism.

In an email published by the paper, Mr Latson said the school had “a variety of activities” on Holocaust education but added that lessons were “not forced upon individuals as we all have the same rights but not all the same beliefs”.

The parent wrote back asking for clarification, saying: “The Holocaust is a factual, historical event. It is not a right or a belief.”

Mr Latson replied: “Not everyone believes the Holocaust happened. I can’t say the Holocaust is a factual, historical event because I am not in a position to do so as a school district employee.

“I do allow information about the Holocaust to be presented and allow students and parents to make decisions about it accordingly.”

RIP Ross Perot

RIP

H Ross Perot was an American original. A self-made billionaire with a penchant for plain-speaking in his clipped north Texas twang, he built a reputation as a savvy technology entrepreneur and spent a small fortune helping US veterans and attempting to free American hostages abroad.

He was also a political harbinger.

His 1992 independent presidential bid – the most successful third-party candidacy in eight decades – exposed fault lines in the US political system that would some day result in electoral earthquakes. He capitalised on the thirst of American voters for an outsider who could disrupt two-party government and built a dedicated following with his populist, small-government, anti-trade, anti-globalist rhetoric.

Hurley Northstars

Boring.

HURLEY (AP) — Six months after dropping its controversial nickname, a northern Wisconsin high school has a new moniker.

The Hurley School Board decided to drop the Midgets nickname in January, after scrapping the idea of having a community vote on whether to dump the mascot. After a months-long community engagement effort and dozens of nominations, the team will now be known as the Hurley Northstars.

Leaving an inheritance

Shortly after celebrating the birth of our great nation, my family and I celebrated the birth of my first grandchild. Such events cause one to pause and ponder life, posterity, and our state from a new perspective. God willing, my grandson will still be enjoying our wonderful state long after I have crossed into my immortality. What kind of state do I hope to leave him?

First and foremost, I want my grandson to grow up in a state where every child is allowed to be born. It is horrifying that some people would have accepted, even encouraged, my grandson to be killed right up to the moment he was born — and even for a few hours after — if his mother did not want him. I hope that Wisconsin will be a state that values every life and gives each baby the chance to live, grow, love, and be loved.

While they say that ignorance is bliss, it will not get you very far in life. Education is critical for one to be a contributing member of society and an active participant in our republic. Being educated also allows one to more fully enjoy life and the surrounding world with better understanding and knowledge. Education is a lifelong endeavor that begins in the home, but we also rightly expect our public and private schools to contribute to our education.

Most of Wisconsin’s public schools, and many of the private ones, are mediocre at best. In the case of public schools, we have too often used them as dumping grounds to solve societal ills instead of centers of education. We expect far too much of our teachers in terms of social work and not enough in terms of providing an exceptional education. I hope that Wisconsin can become a state where kids get the education that they deserve.

Wisconsin’s agricultural and manufacturing sectors have been the backbone of the state’s economy for generations and hopefully the state can continue to lead those sectors for many years to come. But Wisconsin needs a more diverse and dynamic economy if it is to stem the outflow of young workers. The technology sector is blossoming around Madison and the addition of Foxconn to the mix will help boost that sector in other regions, but the state needs to attract new businesses and industries. The easiest and most effective way to do this is to attract and encourage entrepreneurs to create and grow in the state. I hope that my grandchild will be able to enter a vibrant and diverse workforce when the time comes.

One of Wisconsin’s greatest assets is its stunning natural beauty. So many of us use and enjoy the many forests, lakes, streams, moraines, trails, and wildlife that Wisconsin has to offer. I hope that we will sensibly protect these natural assets while also ensuring that people are free to use them responsibly.

Nothing can rob a community or state of its potential more than crime. The vast majority of serious crimes are committed by a relatively small number of people, but those few people can sap the life out of a community. Crime not only directly impacts the victims, but carries over into the community by robbing the citizens of security and comfort. Crime scares away investment and pushes businesses, and the honest work they provide, beyond the reach of entire neighborhoods. I hope that Wisconsin takes the scourge of crime seriously by harshly punishing the offenders for the sake of the innocent.

High taxes have been a heavy yoke on the people of Wisconsin for so long that some Wisconsinites think such a burden is normal and acceptable. The burden is such that many young people choose to leave the state for the chance to take home more of their pay and many old people choose to leave because they can no longer afford to live here. High taxes drain money out of the private economy leaving less for people to invest in a business, save for retirement, buy a home, or educate their kids. I hope that Wisconsin will one day lighten the tax burden so that my grandson can afford to live and raise his own family in the state.

That is not to say that lower taxes should be replaced with more debt. Wisconsin must strive to lower government spending to enable lower taxes and less debt. There is no one quite as selfish as a politician who is willing to implement a debt tax on our grandchildren so that he or she can spend the money today.

Finally, I hope that Wisconsin continues on a path of expanding liberty wherever and whenever possible. I hope that the state reduces regulations, lowers taxes, protects the freedom of thought and word, protects the right to keep and bear arms, and ensures that whenever a balance must be struck between individual liberty and government power, that individual liberty wins the day.

I chose to live and raise a family in Wisconsin. I hope to do my small part to make it a better place where my grandson will choose to do the same.

Disney Caves to Chinese Pressure

Although you can’t judge a film by its trailer, the muted, unhumorous tone of this teaser hints at the film’s objective. Mulan is no longer the self-conscious teenager who disappoints her parents by failing to become the ideal wife, before her fierce and beautiful transformation into the woman she wants to be. Instead, she appears solemn and resolute: Mulan is a now robotic warrior. The removal of the songs is a big mistake: it eliminates the joy and emotional heart that Disney do so well. I can’t help wonder why Disney are remaking Mulan at all if they are simply going to pander to the nationalistic values espoused by the mainland Chinese government – especially as it looks exactly like the kind of “Imperial dramas” that the state media are currently taking aim at.

No doubt Disney have in mind the commercial failure in China of 1998’s Mulan; it was caught up in the controversy over the Disney-funded film Kundun about the Dalai Lama, which led to the Chinese government effectively banning Disney films. The timing of this trailer release is awful, with recent events in Hong Kong culminating in police brutality against anti-extradition bill protesters, and the ongoing oppression of ethnic Muslim minorities in Xinjiang. It feels like Disney is waving a big red flag in everyone’s faces in its desperation to secure success at the Chinese box office. For those who believe in democracy and freedom, this leaves a sour taste.

Half-Non-POC Rapper Triggered

Five years ago, such a headline would have been nonsensical.

The Eventbrite page for “AfroFuture Fest,” hosted by Afrofuture Youth, advertised an “Early Bird POC Ticket” for $10 — with POC meaning “people of color” — and an “Early Bird NONPOC Ticket” for $20. The group defined “NONPOC” as white people.
News of the group’s charging practices hit social media last week when rapper Tiny Jag said she was unknowingly added to the August event but agreed to support and perform. Tiny Jag told CNN she was not going to be paid for the performance. Once the rapper caught wind of the prices, she said she was “triggered.”
“A non-POC friend of mine brought to my attention that AfroFuture is requiring non-people-of-color to pay twice the amount to attend the festival as POC,” she tweeted on July 2. “This does not reflect the views of myself or the Tiny Jag team. I will not be playing this show. I apologize for anyone who may have been triggered or offended.”
The rapper said she is biracial and her grandmother is white. Tiny Jag told CNN Monday she felt emotionally triggered because the charging practice makes a group of people feel like they are not wanted at the event and like they’re paying a debt for another community.

Scooter Mania

In Wisconsin.

Gov. Tony Evers signed a bill Monday regulating electric scooters on roads and sidewalks.

Under the bipartisan measure, scooters must weigh less than 100 pounds and abide by a 15 mph speed limit. Local governments can prohibit use on sidewalks or streets with speed limits above 25 mph and restrict public rentals.

The law also exempts scooters from state vehicle registration requirements, though scooters must comply with lighting and braking requirements and scooter drivers must follow road rules.

Danish police have arrested 28 people in Copenhagen for riding electric scooters while under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Over the weekend 24 people were caught drink-driving scooters while four were intoxicated from recreational drugs.

The force announced the arrests on Twitter following a crackdown on the unsafe use of scooters in the Danish capital earlier this year.

Intoxicated drivers are liable for a 2,000 krone ($300; £235) fine.

I rode a couple of these while touring the Mall in D.C. a few weeks ago. It was a handy way to pack in the sights in less time. But they really do whip along and could do some real damage to the rider and other people.

Admiral to Retire After Being Confirmed or Top Job

Rough times at the Pentagon.

The four-star admiral set to become the Navy’s top officer on Aug. 1 will instead retire, an extraordinary downfall prompted by what Navy Secretary Richard Spencer on Sunday called poor judgment regarding a professional relationship.

The sudden move by Adm. William Moran may add to the perception of turmoil in the Pentagon’s senior ranks, coming less than a month after Pat Shanahan abruptly withdrew from consideration to be defense secretary after serving as the acting secretary for six months.

What Obama Thinks of Us

Washington County To Hold Hearing on New Tax

July 6, 2019 – Washington County, WI – The Washington County Planning and Parks Department will be holding a public hearing on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 7:35 a.m. regarding the creation of an Annual Special Charge Tax Assessment for Washington County properties served by Private Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (POWTS) for the purposes of tracking and maintenance.

The POWTS Maintenence Program Special Charge report, which can be found here, states:

The number of parcels serviced by POWTS in Washington County continues to change and we continue to
refine the inventory of systems. As of June 13, 2019, staff estimates 20,313 parcels are served by POWTS
throughout the County. Staff is recommending program costs be assessed at $11 per parcel annually served
by POWTS or $11 per system, whichever is greater based on the above cost estimate. Approximately 20,209
parcels (99.5%) would be assessed an $11 fee ($11 x 20,209= $222,299). The remaining roughly 103 parcels
would be assessed between $22-$66 depending on the number of POWTS systems on the property as follows:
 4 parcels at $66 annually
 6 parcels at $55 annually
 4 parcels at $44 annually
 10 parcels at $33 annually
 80 parcels at $22 annually

The public hearing will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at 7:35 a.m. in Room 1014 of the Herbert J Tennies Government Center, 423 E. Washington Street, West Bend.

I should mention that this impacts me since I have a septic system. Here’s the thing… I don’t mind fees. They are a rational way for the government to raise revenue instead of taxes. In general, I think that fees are fine when it is an optional government service. Toll roads, car registration fees, park fees, etc… fine. The use of fees get a bit more dubious when they are mandatory. In that case, the distinction between a fee and a tax ceases to exist. In this case, most people with septic systems do not have access to another choice, so the fee is simply a tax to them.

In this case, two things rub me the wrong way. First, the cost. Here’s how this works… I have to have my septic system serviced and inspected once every three years. The county keeps track of it and sends me a post card reminder when it is due. I pay a private contractor to do the work and then they send notice to the county to say that it’s done. The entire process can be run by an intern with a spreadsheet. Why does it cost over $200k per year? That seems extraordinary. I’d love to hear the reason.

The second thing that rubs me wrong is just that it is a change to support more spending. This system has been in place for nearly twenty years and now the county wants to shift it off the general tax and into a fee. If it had been a fee since the beginning, then fine. But since the general taxpayers have been paying for it all along, it means that the county wants to shift this cost to the septic system owners and presumably free up they general tax revenue for some other spending. I don’t see them offering to lower the county property tax or sales tax y $200k+, so it is just implementing a new fee on one hand to support more spending from the other hand.

$11 per year isn’t going to break anyone, but it is just another nagging fee that makes the county a little more expensive and a little more annoying to live in – especially for rural citizens.

Epstein Arrested

Clinton’s buddy is still at it.

Epstein was arrested Saturday and is expected to appear in federal court in New York on Monday.

Epstein faces charges brought by US prosecutors in Manhattan, after previously evading similar charges when he secured a non-prosecution deal with federal prosecutors in Miami.

The charges, contained in a sealed indictment, involve alleged sex trafficking crimes committed between 2002 and 2005, according to law enforcement sources. The indictment alleged that the crimes occurred in both New York and Palm Beach, Florida.

Biden Touts Moderates

He’s not wrong, but this won’t win him the primary in a party that has gone hard left.

WASHINGTON – Former Vice President Joe Biden sounded a note of caution Friday about progressive Democrats and their policies, saying that Democratic voters are more “center-left” and not “way left.”

During an interview with CNN broadcast Friday, Biden pointed to a number of moderate Democrats who won swing districts during the 2018 midterms.

“That’s what this election is about. I’m happy to debate that issue and all those issues with my friends because guess what, look who won the races. Look who won last time out,” Biden said.

Throughout the Democratic presidential primary race, Biden has continued to tout his more moderate proposals as some other 2020 Democrats have announced their support for more left-leaning ideas, such as Medicare for all. Biden does not support Medicare for all. He said his plan includes keeping private insurance while allowing people to opt in to Medicare if they would like.

Evers Signs Budget

The MacIver Institute has a good rundown of the budget after Evers’ 78 line item vetoes. Here’s the short version: Evers got 80% of what he wanted, so he signed it with a few tweaks. Big-spending Republicans got 80% of what they wanted. Conservatives got nothing.

Politically speaking, this was a disaster for Republicans. They managed to piss off conservatives in their base with a big-spending budget without appeasing or winning a single vote from the other side. Meanwhile, Evers walks away with a 80% win and can continue to demonize Republicans for not giving him everything.

Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown

Palmyra-Eagle School District Votes to Dissolve

Makes sense.

(WKOW) —  The Palmyra-Eagle Area School District plans to dissolve.

School board members approved the move Monday night.

Now, the district will wait to see what the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction says.

Schools will still operate for the 2019-2020 school year.

The decision in Palmyra-Eagle comes after a failed referendum in April that would have provided money to keep the district running.

West Bend to Add New Industrial Park

Excellent.

WEST BEND — The city could pay nearly $3.15 million to buy a swath of rural property off its southeastern border for a future industrial park — something city leaders have said West Bend needs but that some neighbors have said they don’t want.

The Common Council on Monday night approved a purchase agreement authorizing the city to pay $20,500 an acre for the targeted roughly 153.5-acre plot near the corner of River Road and County Highway NN.

Closing on the sale could take place in January, and Mayor Kraig Sadownikow noted the final sale price could depend on the land’s precise acreage,

which has yet to be officially platted. The seller, meanwhile, would keep a small portion of property near the River Road-County NN intersection.

City Administrator Jay Shambeau had previously said West Bend would combine the newly acquired land with a neighboring 63-acre parcel the city annexed earlier this year. That would give the city room for a new, roughly 215-acre industrial park — which Shambeau and other city leaders have said West Bend badly needs.

Of course, this is not without controversy. There is a lovely little neighborhood next to this parcel. It is farmland now and contributes to a nice, quiet, rural-like neighborhood. That will change when there are a bunch of light and heavy industrial businesses popping up. That’s a shame, but it’s no reason to retard the city’s growth. This particular site is ideally located with easy access to the interstate, a railroad spur, and across the street from several other businesses that run semi trucks up that road all the time.
