Drinks to Go

I’m a bit shocked that this craze hasn’t come to Wisconsin.

At least 33 states and the District of Columbia are temporarily allowing cocktails to-go during the pandemic. Only two — Florida and Mississippi — allowed them on a limited basis before coronavirus struck, according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States.

Struggling restaurants say it’s a lifeline, letting them rehire bartenders, pay rent and reestablish relationships with customers. But others want states to slow down, saying the decades-old laws help ensure public safety.

Against state law to serve drinks not in their original container to go.

    Given circumstances, dumb law.

Not sure if this a good idea.
How many of the drinks will make it home as opposed to being drunk in the car?
And if you can get it from the bar, why not make it at your own home?

    Mar,

You can still make open intoxicants in car illegal.

Bars can sell a can of beer to go right now. Can a driver pop it open in car now? Sure.

I am only arguing that bars should be allowed to package their drinks to go in this environment. No one should drink and drive.

I say this as someone who hardly ever consumes alcohol.

I actually agree with Kevin.  Holy $#@*!

    Randall,

Always good to agree with smart people in the room.

I do have to work on that humility….

The Tavern League doesn’t want to lose that sweet, sweet bar food revenue when the current crisis is over.

Somebody ought to tell them what 100% of $0.00 is.

Bar food revenue?  I thought they were more sad about all the lost under-the-table profit from the illegal gambling machines.

“Public safety” my ass.  Getting loaded IN the bar and driving home is more safe than getting loaded at the house?  While driving?

    Sure.

……..wait!!  wait!!!  Don’t our Tin-Pot Twerps want “safety” above all else?  Then they should mandate drinking IN the bar, just as the tavern league suggests, right?

For a Tin Pot this is all too confusing.

And for normal citizens, it’s worse:  why does Little Tin-Pot allow arson and insurrection, but demand compliance with Tin-Pot mask orders?
