SOTU?

It’s March 5th. Is President Biden going to tell us what the State of the Union is?

Heck, he cannot even hold a simple meeting without screwing it up, how is he going to give a national speech in front of Congress and millions at home?
His handlers treat him like a trained monkey, except the monkey is more aware what is going on.

There have been only 3 Presidents in the modern era (post-FDR, who began the January/February tradition of delivering an in-person Annual Address in 1934) who delivered a SOTU speech shortly after taking the oath of office for the first time – Dwight Eisenhower, John Kennedy, and Lyndon Johnson (whose term started 2 months earlier than either Eisenhower’s or Kennedy’s). The last time a President delivered a SOTU speech in the months after an election that ushered in a new President was 1977, and that was done by the outgoing Gerald Ford.

Now, if Biden (or Harris, as the case may be) bows out of delivering a SOTU in 2022, that would be something to gripe about.

Based on history, President Trump should have given the State of Union speech this year.
That would have been very, very interesting.

What are the odds we get a taped Oval Office address from old Joe instead? Because killer COVID variants and mystical insurrections, docha know.

    Or a body double.

Based on history, there should be no SOTU speech this year. Since the terms of Congresscritters and the start of a new session were aligned to the beginning of January in 1934, there have been 11 elections with a change in President (1952, 1960, 1968, 1976, 1980, 1988, 1992, 2001, 2008, 2016 and 2020). After the first 2, the incoming President (Eisenhower and Kennedy) delivered a formal SOTU speech shortly after taking the oath of office. After the next 2, the outgoing President (Johnson and Ford) delivered a formal SOTU speech on the way out the door. After the last 7, neither the outgoing nor the incoming President delivered a formal SOTU speech in the months after the election.

2000, even. Where’s the edit button, Jed?

Technically, you are correct about the SOTU speeches in years where they swear in a new president.
However, the incoming presidents still have given speeches before both houses of Congress shortly after they have been sworn in.
And I second your second point.

    Eggman is correct, of course.

But that still not explain the longest stretch ever – and growing – for newly elected prez not to appear at a press conference.

WH Press Sec Jen “CircleJerk” Psaki claims Prez Braindead is just to, to busy (except for Mario Cart) dealing with the CCPVirus, yet it’s obvious to everyone why that is.

While Babblin’ Joe can order infected illegals be allowed to roam free throughout the county, he himself cannot.

Only one week ago, In Houston, he faded out with, “What am I doing here?”. Three days ago he left the range during a live feed and wondered, “I’m happy to take questions if that’s what I’m supposed to do…”, upon which the feed was immediately cut by his handlers. Thursday, on call with NASA it was, “Am I supposed to speak now?” and “Indian of decent Americans are taking over the country. You, my vice president, my speechwriter Vinay.” (pairs nicely with his 2006 “7-11 Indian accent” comments).

Ten minutes, even with a TelePrompter, seems to be his limit before his cabbage brain connections start to spark and sizzle.

And that’s on his “good” days.

You won’t be seeing Babblin’ Joe give any SOTU address. January 2022 is 10 months from now, or another 10% brain loss.

And as for an hour-long question session? Ha, ha.

“And as for an hour-long question session? Ha, ha.”
He could do it if the press is hand picked, they give them the questions beforehand and they put up the questions into a large screen TV TV so he can read the answers.
Then he might have a fighting chance.
