Comedian and late-night host Bill Maher said the United States has “lost” to China in the “battle for the 21st century.”
During “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday, Maher argued that China was becoming more dominant on the world stage as the U.S. argues over “culture wars.”
“You know who doesn’t care that there’s a stereotype of a Chinese man in a Dr. Seuss book? China. All 1.4 billion of them could give a crouching tiger flying f—,” Maher said, referencing the controversy surrounding six of Seuss’s books that were pulled by Dr. Seuss Enterprises over racist imagery.
“If anything, they are not a silly people. They are as serious as a prison fight,” he said
Maher criticized China’s authoritarian government over controversies surrounding Hong Kong’s autonomy and the nation’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims. However, the host went on to argue that China is able to quickly develop and solve problems as the U.S. debates partisan issues.
“On a national level, we’ve been having infrastructure week every week since 2009, but we never do anything,” Maher said.“Half the county is having a never-ending woke competition deciding whether Mr. Potato Head has a d—, and the other half believes that we have to stop the lizard people because they’re eating babies.”

Do I support “China taking us over” ? Absolutely not, and never I have I ever made that statement. And for mar to make such a claim is ridiculous. Is China our “friend “ ? No, surely not in the conventional manner. But they are a major player on the world stage and need to be treated as such. To ignore or provoke them without considering the long term global ramifications is foolhardy.
Sure , I voted for Biden, and in general support many of his policies. But not all. And I thought that there were other candidates that were more aligned with my interests, but felt Biden had a better chance of beating trump. And that proved to be true.

As far as the rest of your comment, it is measured, but I don’t think you appreciate how much they have ignored and provoked us on so many issues, but especially on trade. Is it considered ‘provoking them’ to insist on reciprocating trade deals? Trump was the first POTUS to actually do something about the high tariffs on many goods imported to China, while giving favorable trade status (instituted after WWII) to their exports. If they want to be considered a superpower in the class of the US (and I believe they are), they need to stop insisting on the favored trade deals given by the US to developing countries. We should all thank Trump for that and fear that Biden will cave to any new Sino/American deals that heavily favor China. I don’t think our economy can take the hit. Foolhardy is saying ‘yes, China. Whatever you say China.’ We’ll capitulate to your terms…if you consider being more humane to your people.’ Then call it a triumph because we gave away economic power for China’s word to be more humane. It is not provocation (or at least not unjust provocation) to demand economic equality with another superpower.
