I look at mask data and think that a 20% reduction in spreading disease is all but useless when you will be going to the same school or workplace every day. You see a 20% reduction as ‘every little bit helps’. So I conclude that it is a failure in most cases (excluding single instance large crowd conditions) and you conclude that it is a success to the point where you say my line of thinking is wholly untrue. Same facts. I look at lockdowns and see the dramatic increase in suicide, depression, (loss of work when the lockdowns were on) and other mental issues with no doctor availability and conclude that the reduction in disease infection is not worth the cost of a lockdown. Double clothed masks block about 60% of droplets and spray. And N95 mask is… 95% (hence the name).
20% is good rough estimate based on the fact that most people only wear a loose fitting single-layer cloth mask that only protects against large droplets and doesn’t protect against most regular germs.
And even if that number was ONLY 20%. Lets do some quick napkin math. WI has had 883K cases and about 8600 CONFIRMED deaths (plus about 900 probably). That is a .009% death rate in WI. If you add 20% to the 883K number, you get about 1.06M cases. Now multiply that number by the .009 and you get 10,300 deaths. And if we are at 8600, then you could say that at minimum the mask mandates probably saved about 1700 lives in WI alone. Or you could just multiply 8600 * 1.2 and get 10320.

Just a month ago my 60 year old (unvaxxed) aunt caught this and put her in the hospital for weeks. She was found naked and barely able to breathe on her living room floor. The lack of oxygen she was getting caused her to hallucinate. She couldn’t WALK to the car to get to the hospital. She barely survived, is now on oxygen and has to relearn how to do many basic functions thru rehab. They told us at one point that she had about a 10% chance to make it thru the night and that her loved ones should basically say goodbye to be safe.

Okay I spoke too loosely, let me clarify. According to the reports I have read from liberal leaning professionals you are 20% less likely to get Covid if you wear a mask. There is no report I have read where masks are said to decrease Covid cases by 20%. There is a huge difference there. The fact or TRUTH as I read it is that an individual who wears a mask is 20% less likely to get the Vid. If one were to wear a mask at school day after day after day, the odds reduction becomes inconsequential in less than a month if they around other children or staff with the virus. In my view, Dad’s spin was that there is a 20% reduction in cases (and I had expected to get that from Le Roi or JonnyV). That would be significant, but that is not what professionals are saying in their writings. 20% less likely is the most accepted number by professionals who have done studies. It is a common spin to change the wording from ‘an individual wearing a mask is 20% less likely get infected in any given location’ to an un-provable ‘20% less cases’.
So all the comments talking about a 20% reduction are based in spin, not fact. Not truth. The studies that best case scenario of 20% less likely to get Covid if wearing a mask were based on single instance large crowd conditions, not the day to day confines of workplace or school.
