Evers fails to act to stem rise in violent crime

My column for the Washington County Daily News is online and in print. Here’s a part:

Two facts have become very clear this election year. First, crime is a huge priority for Wisconsinites. Second, crime is not a priority at all for Gov. Tony Evers.

Since Tony Evers took office, crime — particularly violent crime — is way up in Wisconsin. Reviewing the crime statistics compiled by Wisconsin’s Department of Justice tells a tragic story. In comparing 2018 (the last year before Evers took office) to 2021 (the last full year), there were 82% more murders in Wisconsin, 16% more aggravated assaults, and 111% more vehicle thefts.

Even more tragic, while murders were up by 82%, arrests for murder were only up 15%. And while aggravated assaults were up by 16%, arrests for aggravated assaults were down by 4%. We have more violent crime, and we are arresting fewer of those violent criminals.

[…]

After the shootings in Milwaukee last week, Evers once again took to media outlets to express his sorrow and outrage. And once again he is not acting to make any changes to keep it from happening again. Evers’ lieutenant governor, Mandela Barnes, who is also running for U.S. Senate, tweeted about the need for gun control — the old hobby horse of totalitarians throughout modern history — without even bothering to give any specific policy prescriptions.

In each of Evers’ budgets, he failed to offer any policy initiatives to reduce crime. Instead, under the label of “criminal justice reform,” Evers proposed spending more money on education and training for crooks in jail. He campaigned on closing the juvenile facilities of Lincoln Hills and Copper Lake, but four years later, they remain open waiting for a better solution for Wisconsin’s young criminals. Evers is consistent in advocating to legalize marijuana as a means of reducing crime, but such policies are more about appeasing college kids and crusty hippies. Nowhere in Evers’ budgets is there anything designed to lock up more criminals, empower law enforcement, or compel district attorneys and judges to conduct themselves with the rigor and vigor that justice and victims deserve.

Safe behind the walls of his taxpayer-provided mansion with armed guards escorting him wherever he goes, Governor Evers has consistently demonstrated disinterest in the explosion in violent crime that is wrecking lives and destroying the quality of life in the state. Wisconsin needs a new governor who cares more about victims than criminals.

Likely even Evers realizes that his reign is over. Done. Finis. as of next January. Why bother putting up a plan? Whatever he puts out will look idiotic (normal for him) or–if it’s NOT idiotic–un-Democrat.

I kinda like Evers in this role. Any time he’s asked to do something by someone his response is “Ho Hum, I don’t have the authority to do that”. He’s had his knuckles rapped enough by the legislation and by judges including the Wisc SC that he doesn’t want to do anything. Perfect role for a governor like him.

True statement, but this is exactly the same MO Tom Barrett spent 16+ years selling to the citizens of Milwaukee. Like Barrett, Evers knows his voters. Action and results are not required. Show a little emotion, spread some warm fuzzies, and move on. No matter how deep the shit gets in Milwaukee the vote results are always the same. All Democrat all the time.

Dem voters, the very definition that most people accept for the term ‘insane’. They keep voting the same and continually expect a different result. And they accept the ‘IT IS THE REPUBLICAN’S FAULT’ excuse every time, though there is nary a Republican in the city Gov’t!!! WT actual F!?!

    We disagree.

Colossally STUPID, also usually fat and happy. Public servants voting their own interests plus illiterates who cannot read the newspaper.

… illiterates who cannot read the newspaper.

Or, they do read the “news” papers. Meaning, not so much illiterate as ignorant.

As Owen noted, Demorats in power, tucked safely behind taxpayer-funded security, care not one wit about average joes. The most perfect example is Chicago mayor “ I have a right to make sure that my home is secure” Lightfoot presiding over the Miracle Mile becoming Crap Alley.

Just think of what the dim liberals in WI would have done if Walker had pulled a Beatlejuice… Remember when they were protesting at his Parents house? Dirty pool.

Interestingly the Dems in charge in DC somehow recognized that their MDM (Mis – Dis – Mal) Information board was a terrible idea and have abandoned it.

    Nevermind…

    Wow.

We’re obviously not spending enough on mental health. If this is what escapes her mouth it makes you wonder what the voices in her head are really telling her.

She’s a beacon of “This is what happens when parents allow the Public School System to raise your child”.

“It is very simple. I identify as a male but with a working vagina and breasts. I had ‘gay’ sex with someone else who identifies as male, but has a working penis. I got pregnant. Simple as 2+2=5.5.”

The public school system at work, new math, new health class.
The true punchlines start when the first ‘guy’ above sues the schools who also taught ‘him’ that guys don’t get pregnant, they get to walk away from a pregnancy. And that ‘gay’ sex cannot lead to pregnancy so they should not be pregnant two times over. And THEN ‘his’ parents found about it for the first time and they are also suing the school.

For people who a say on crime, the governor is probably 5th in the chain of command.
First, the. Mayor’s, then police chiefs, then district attorneys, then the common councils the the Attorney General and maybe then the governor.

You know what else Evers has failed to stem? Leroy should be up in arms about this – well he would be if he weren’t a partisan idiot.

CWD has continued to spread throughout the state. I remember Leroy throwing the blame of this on Scott Walker’s administration and how his DNR didn’t do anything or have any plan. Well we’re 4 years since he won his election and ironically we’re worse off with Chronic Wasting Disease in those 4 years. Where did you go Leroy, you were so very passionate about this a couple of years ago, now you’re silent.

That’s what YOU think, pal. Talk about ‘disinformation’…………
