Averagen Gas Prices Surge to $5.10 per Gallon

But… but… Putin or something.

CAMARILLO, Calif. — The average U.S. price of regular-grade gasoline spiked 39 cents over the past three weeks to $5.10 per gallon.

Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg of the Lundberg Survey said Sunday that the price jump comes amid higher crude oil costs and tight gasoline supplies.

The average price at the pump is $1.97 higher than it was one year ago.

When can we all admit that Democrats’ policies are crushing our economy? The only real question left is whether their policies are rooted in malice or stupidity.

Check out the earnings reports for the gas manufacturers and get back to me .

  2. Merlin

    XOM EPS for Q1 2022 was $1.28, an increase of 100% year-over.
XOM EPS for the 12 mo ending 3/31/2022 was down 234.9% year-over.

    XOM 2021 EPS was a 202.67% decline from 2020.
    XOM 2020 EPS was a 256.25% decline from 2019.
    XOM 2019 EPS was a 31.15% decline from 2018.

Maybe someone can explain to us the national energy policies and world events that drove those statistics. Maybe they can explain the primary effects on domestic PPI and the resulting secondary ramifications to CPI. Give it to us deplorable hicks Barney-style so we can understand it.

Need economy 101 Maley? Dem policies haven’t limited what price the oil companies could charge, they limited supply. When supply goes down, demand drives prices up. If Biden had gone full on socialist and limited prices, the oil companies would not have seen the profits per gallon. They are not selling more gas, they are charging a lot more per gallon for less gas.

So the question remains, are dem politicians malicious or just plain stupid? They limited the work force by offering incentives to stay home with the perceived intention of raising minimum wages and it did work, sort of. Everyone buying a $2 McDonald’s hamburger today when less than 3 years ago it was $1 recognizes what that raise cost everyone, but did Dems really intend to eat that raise away from everyone with all costs spiraling so far up that today $15 is less than $10 in buying power over the same three years or are they indeed just stupid?

  4. penquin

Just to be clear – are you saying the war being waged in Europe has nothing at all to with our energy prices in the USofA? Or are you claiming that Putin has nothing at all to do with that invasion and instead it was solely caused by Democratic Policies? Or perhaps you are saying that the sanctions imposed against Russia are stupid & unjustified? Or perhaps you’re saying that it is the Democratic Party’s stance towards abortion or immigration which is causing gas prices to increase?

Please clarify. Your explanation of “But…but…Democrats!!!” (with not even a “or something”…rather just flat-out giving them all the blame) was vague about how the mud you’re flinging is relevant.

  5. penquin

    >they are charging a lot more per gallon

in other words, they are profiteering.

Tuerqas, we are producing just as much crude oil now as we were in 2018. Why are the prices so much higher? Partially that the WORLD is producing less oil currently. OPEC, US, Russia are all combining for less oil / day. But the oil production has steadily gone up since early 2020 (pandemic), so why do prices keep going up if production is going up as well?

The answer is demand. We have been locked down for 2 years, and finally EVERYONE wants to get out. So oil companies have us over a “barrel” and can basically charge whatever they want and they know people will pay. Gas prices will sort themselves out after the summer rush and as production continues to go up.

Why is housing and rent going up? Because there is a lack of supply. Mortgages did not go up on these units, yet landlords are upping the price anywhere from 20-50% on the price of rent. Because they have people over a barrel as well. We haven’t built enough housing over the past 15 years since the last bubble. And now that the millennials are starting to look at moving out and buying houses and trying to rent, there is a HUGE influx and driving up of prices. Labor is difficult to get, so building new housing is slow.

I would love to see more tax breaks on new multifamily units in lower and middle income areas. Between gas and rent, my bigger concern is getting rent prices under control and driving them down. You can choose to limit your travel and gas usage to some extent, you can’t choose to limit your monthly rent. I would also like to see extensions on tax breaks for EVs and solar systems. Pushing us more and more away from fossil fuels will push the price down on those and leave us less at the whim of foreign oil and energy. And as long as oil companies are making BILLIONS of dollars of profit every quarter, they have no incentive to increase production and drive down prices.

  7. Merlin

    >So the question remains, are dem politicians malicious or just plain stupid?

Maybe the politicians are malicious because they’re convinced their sheep are just plain stupid?

  8. Tuerqas

JonnyV, no the US is not producing as much oil and the plans to produce more oil were shut down. US demand has been a steady increase the last several decades discounting extraordinary circumstances like Covid. To knock down INCREASES is actually a hit, but we actually reduced supply even greater than the demand as soon as Biden gained office. And yes, I believe it was intentional as a nod to their believers in climate control. I am all for increasing the footprint of non fossil fuel energy sources, but not by Government decree. Tax incentive the hell out of actual solar use especially for new builds, remove their windmill restrictions that save the birdies, but inhibit oil production to force us into fuel alternatives that are not supported like electric cars, not their right or their job.

The housing market has not been comparatively affected by Government directly, save maybe by the extended worker shortages and their small effect on the supply chain. There is always an inchworm effect on housing. It has just been made so much worse by the lack of building materials and sure people are taking advantage…or they are keeping up with their cost increases. Why should a landlord pay all the increases in energy costs for rents that include the costs? Everyone WANTS to keep their same margins and that means increasing prices as their costs go up. It also means the people with the least control get crapped on the most.

  9. Tuerqas

    >Just to be clear – are you saying the war being waged in Europe has nothing at all to with our energy prices in the USofA? Talk about making ridiculous assumptions! Clarity has nothing to do with Penguin conversations. Maybe some day you will want a serious discussion, but not today as usual.

  10. penquin

    >Talk about making ridiculous assumptions!

Looking at the opening sentence of the post, I thought it was safe to assume Owen is mocking those folks who beleive Putin has something to do with our increase in gas prices. And if he is mocking ’em, then it seemed safe to assume he doesn’t beleive as such himself. So I asked for clarification because they are merely assumptions.

But seeing how you beleive those are such “ridiculous” assumptions, then perhaps you can shed some light on what “But… but… Putin or something” is supposed to actually mean.

  11. Jason

    >So I asked for clarification because they are merely assumptions.

You did not ask for clarification. You made a series of logical fallacies in what appears to be a smug and childish tantrum. Thereby giving further proof that “Half-Wit” was far too generous and kind.

  12. jonnyv

    T. Even according to the EIA the US is producing just as much oil now as they were in 2018, and it has been steadily increasing since 2020’s major drop.
    https://www.macrotrends.net/2562/us-crude-oil-production-historical-chart
I imagine it is just as difficult for the oil producers to hire as everyone else and that is probably why production has not as quickly increased. Again, what incentive is there for them to increase the production when we are not having a shortage, just an increase in demand. Prices and profit are up.

So tell me T. What has Biden done exactly that has limited the oil production? I can personally recall 2 things. XL Pipeline and increasing the royalties % that oil companies have to pay. But, everything else is basically the same as the Trump administration.

  13. Tuerqas

    >But seeing how you beleive those are such “ridiculous” assumptions, then perhaps you can shed some light on what “But… but… Putin or something” is supposed to actually mean.

You are getting dumber and dumber with another stupid assumption there, Penguin.

  14. penquin

    >You did not ask for clarification.

Folks who read past the first paragraph know that you’re lying.

    >You are getting dumber and dumber with another stupid assumption there, Penguin.

You are getting uglier and uglier with another lame ad hominem there, Tuergas.

  15. Tuerqas

Yes JonnyV, we are using as much as in 2018, but less than in 2019 and are catching back up to 2019 since the 2020 drop. So we are back to 2018 levels, not yet up to 2019 levels and demand as normal is up every year with an additional boost from restless pandemic tired people. The XL keystone pipeline would have added a 5% increase by now, about what our demand would have been. We were importing about 225,000 barrels a day from Russia, and the XL would have brought in an additional estimated 800,000 barrels a day. We could have been completely off Russian oil before 2022 and still had a significant increase in oil supply, largely avoiding the huge price increases. Instead, Biden shut down that pipeline, increased oil imports and charged royalties that were just passed on to us.

Just using the two things you brought up (not to mention the worker shortage you also brought up) that is a pretty significant dent in our current problems don’t you think? I repeat, I don’t believe that Biden policies are solely responsible for our current economic woes, but to say they are insignificant is irresponsible head in the sand stupidity.

  16. Tuerqas

    >You are getting uglier and uglier with another lame ad hominem there, Tuergas.

But you still have me beat in the lame department, in addition to starting it, Lameguin.

  17. Tuerqas

Would you like an explanation Lameguin?

    >Just to be clear – are you saying the war being waged in Europe has nothing at all to with our energy prices in the USofA? Or are you claiming that Putin has nothing at all to do with that invasion and instead it was solely caused by Democratic Policies? Or perhaps you are saying that the sanctions imposed against Russia are stupid & unjustified? Or perhaps you’re saying that it is the Democratic Party’s stance towards abortion or immigration which is causing gas prices to increase?

Problem 1) This was right after my comment. You did not preface it with Owen or Tuerqas and it sort of fit for either. The first lack of clarity in your ‘request for clarity’.
Problem 2) “Does the war have anything to do…” Sure it does and it is a relatively reasonable question to a con who is solely and blindly blaming Dems. However, with no shown understanding of just how much it has affected us and what some of those underlying reasons are, you (and most Dems) are implying that it is the sole reason for our economic woes. What has Biden done about any of it? Less than nothing, is the answer. A responsible President could, for instance, immediately rescind his legally questionable block to the pipeline.
Problem 3) After one okay question you follow it with three ridiculous queries that, if taken seriously would just have made us look as dumb as you. Neither Ricky nor Owen plays that game.

And to be clear, “But… but… Putin or something.” is what Dems are defending the current administration’s clumsy reckless and harmful actions and inactions with. No understanding, no explanations, just blind defense of their political leader by blaming the admins current fall guy Putin. I feel I can answer for Owen on that one as could most of the non-liberals here…except you of course.

    Does that clarify?

  18. jonnyv

    T. From the research that I have done, no matter what, we are probably going to be importing oil due to the type of oil that we have here and the refineries that we have built currently. And my understanding was the the pipeline wouldn’t have been ready until NEXT year anyway at best.

The 800k barrels a day… nothing would be requiring TC to sell the US those barrels. They most likely would have been selling to the highest bidder, not necessarily us.

At best the Keystone pipeline is a very MINOR contributor to any price increase in gas.

This is mostly a refinery problem. We have a lack of them in the US running right now. And oil companies don’t want to invest in something that could be obsolete or useless in 15 years due to alternative energy sources. If oil companies don’t begin to increase refinery capacity and our consumption continues to increase… we are in for what could be a world of hurt for a while. Until our alternative energy sources can make up for the loss in capacity.

  19. penquin

    >Would you like an explanation

If you can do it without name-calling, sure

    >Lameguin

    *sigh*

I didn’t bother reading any more of your comment past that, ’cause it is now crystal-clear why so many people don’t wanna talk with you. You’re just looking for a fight and you will make up any reason to start one.

  20. Tuerqas

    TuerGas…sigh

I don’t start it. If you can’t take it, don’t dish it out.

  21. penquin

    >I don’t start it

heh. You sure about that? As sure as you are about everything else?

’cause a quick look at your previous comments shows that you did start transposing the “Q” for a “G” in my name loooong before I did the exact same with yours…just giving back tit-for-tat ’cause I wanted to see if you’d throw a fit about it.

Thanks for proving me correct on that theory, and bonus points for telling a blatant lie (the “g” is not capitalized in my comment) while in the middle of your latest meltdown.

  22. Tuerqas

Care to share where I spelled your name with a Q? Oh and are you sure I capitalized it or are you blatantly lying too? I was just emphasizing it to point it out. Note, me spelling “G” with a capital G in it was not in quotes, hence I was not lying about anything as I was not accusing you of spelling it with a capital. But bonus points for doing the same thing, capitalizing the G and the Q (in quotes no less) and then accusing me of lying, so calling yourself a liar too…unless you can reference my mis-spelling where I spelled it with a capital…but I’d settle for a non-capital.

If I did, I will apologize for it because I am pretty careful about that sort of thing until/unless someone starts taking liberties with my moniker. But, I am pretty sure I never did as all my mis-spellings are unintentional keyboard failures and q is not near g on my keyboard. You, however, will not I am guessing. Making up another blatant lie to cover your name-calling tendencies…it is, well, lame.

Another guess is that you started this new slander to avoid the old topic, same as you have done for a loooong time.
Date and thread I spelled Penguin with a q (it was a quick look after all, you should be able to tell us readers where quickly) or go away and lie to other groups. Your continued lack of interesting conversation has now made you just a target to me until you show me where I ‘started’ name calling, spelling your name with a q.

  23. Merlin

    Pssst! Stop feeding the trolls!

  24. Tuerqas

Can I start using ’em for target practice? Awww, please?
Cuz that is where liars calling me a liar generally goes.

Where is the insult in spelling penguin with a q? What a straight up dumb lie to make up. If he had said I called him ‘Penfuin’ I could have understood it, I made a typo, but q?

If you really want to understand my motives, I will tell you that my hands down favorite MASH episode was about ‘Pioneer Aviation’…

  25. Merlin

Eh. If I spell it with a q my spellchecker defaults it to a g anyway.

  26. Jason

Porkquin is really stretching for some Karen outrage, eh? I see a recent example of Owen using a g when addressing Penny, but with their lack of any meaningful commentary… Who the fuck cares what their name is.

Sorry p, you’re still as stupid as you were the last time you showed up here posting your troll tripe.

  27. penquin

    >Care to share where I spelled your name with a Q?

LOL!!! And I mean that literally…you got me laughing so hard it scared the cats.

You really need to re-read it all again (assuming you actually read it once before…which based on your response may be too big of an assumption) ’cause I never-ever said that you had spelled my name with a Q, and the fact that you think I did is absolutely hilarious.

And I mean that sincerely – HILARIOUS!!! Even you should be chuckling at yourself once you figure out how bad you screwed the pooch on this one.

    >I am pretty sure I never did as all my mis-spellings are unintentional keyboard failures

Well, it may have been unintentional but you really can’t blame the keyboard – the failure in this case is 100% operator-error.

    > show me where I ‘started’ name calling

Asked&answered, counselor. This thread, comment posted on June 14, 2022 at 10:44 am.

    >Where is the insult in spelling penguin with a q?

You’re assuming again – I never said that you mis-spelling my name was/is insulting…rather just saying that you have been doing so, and for quite a long time.

Where is the insult is spelling Tuerqas with a g?

    >‘Pioneer Aviation’

That the one where Hawkeye told a bunch of lies to Frank, just ’cause it amused him to do so? And Frank was called out on his lies (about their future after the war) by Margaret? Also seem to also remember Radar telling a bunch of lies to his penpal, but the details on that are kind of hazy. HE made up a bunch of bullshit in an attempt to impress some girl or something, yes?

Heh. If that is the same one I’m thinking of, then yeah…can totally understand why you find it to be the bestest episode of MASH there ever was.

    >some Karen outrage

Ain’t mad about any of this at all – quite the opposite actually….the only “outrage” I got going on is how outrageously funny this whole thing is.

    >Who the fuck cares

Given how 83.33% (repeating, of course) of your comments in the past week or so have been about moi, the answer to that question is pretty obvious.

    >your troll tripe

“Why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but fail to notice the beam in your own eye?”

  28. Jason

    >Given how 83.33% (repeating, of course) of your comments in the past week or so have been about moi, the answer to that question is pretty obvious.

Don’t get all vain on us now Karquin, just because I choose to insult you does not mean that I care about you one way or the other. I don’t miss Leroy and I don’t miss Jiffy and I don’t miss Scott or any of the other trolls that used to come here just to stir shit up. There’s always tomorrow’s fool to take their place, thanks for stepping up.

  29. Tuerqas

The book on you is lowering down and down Lameguin:

    >’cause a quick look at your previous comments shows that you did start transposing the “Q” for a “G” in my name loooong before I did the exact same with yours…just giving back tit-for-tat ’cause I wanted to see if you’d throw a fit about it.

OH MY GOD! You really got me there! You called me names, whined about my tit for tat on your lame ass moniker ‘refusing to read’ the rest of my comment even though you knew you really did start the name calling. Then put in the letters incorrectly, but still falsely accused me of starting name calling falsely saying you were giving ME tit-for-tat. So you lied about someone else, called them names, falsely accused them of calling you names first, JUST to make that great joke that Penguin never had a Q and always had a g. Wow!!! All that whining about name calling and false accusations just to trick them. Whew, talk about screwing pooches, I hope you only have cats. You can’t even get a quote right.

Fortunately, since Lameguin is your new moniker and you are so insulted by it that you won’t read my comments, I don’t have to worry about another ‘witty’ comment coming from you. It is nice that I don’t have to do anything but make fun of your comments from now on, your tricksy little wordings instead of ever engaging in the discussion only seems to scare your cats. I feel sorry for the furballs. Do you ever put pillow stuffing in their food bowls as another great joke on them and then laugh yourself silly over it? Poor things.

  30. penquin

    >You called me names,

You keep saying that, but yet are unable to provide any valid examples.

    >accused me of starting name

That accusation is true, and the evidence has been provided.

    >JUST to make that great joke that Penguin never had a Q and always had a g.

That’s not the joke. YOU are the joke…lol!

For real – you couldn’t even take 2 seconds to double-check if your assumption about how my name is spelled was correct. You’d think after being burned so many times by that you would have learned the lesson…especially after I urged you to double-check your facts.

    >Do you ever put pillow stuffing in their food bowls as another great joke on them and then laugh yourself silly over it?

Never even considered such a thing, you sick lil’ fuck. For real – you’re so sad/upset over this whole thing that the first thought you turned to is torturing animals?! It is obvious that you are kind of cra-cra, but I had no idea how deep your depravity truly goes.

Thanks for your response – it has been very insightful…far more than perhaps you intended.

  31. Tuerqas

Okay, okay, that is funny on me!!!! You are right, I never saw your moniker is PENQUIN with a Q, I saw what I expected to see. Doesn’t change the fact that Penguin was never intended as an insult while yours was (and thank you so little for ever politely correcting it), but I DID start the misspellings. Hahaha, I am the joke there, though.

  32. penquin

    >I saw what I expected to see

Exactly! You saw what you assumed what was there, and didn’t bother to double-check the facts when prompted to so. Instead, you double-downed on your false assumption, resulting in egg ending up all over your face.

Am glad finally figured it out and that you’re laughing over this as well. Now that you’ve calmed down a bit, hopefully you’ll see the moral of the story and allow this be a learning experience for yourself.

    >Penguin was never intended as an insult

I never said it was – rather, you assumed I took it as such.

    >while yours was

You’re assuming I was trying to insult you by transposing those two letters, but that was not my intentions whatsoever.

Don’t be backsliding already! Ya gotta stop with all these assumptions…they’re making you look like a joke, and you’re better than that. Ain’t you?

  33. Tuerqas

Are you? Cuz you still haven’t actually talked about an issue, and if not, why are you here?

  34. Tuerqas

Anyway, off to the great Wisconsin north for a week plus. Have a fine one all.

  35. Jason

Hat Tip T… I’ll be in Peninsula SP all next week, working and glamping.

  36. penquin

    > Cuz you still haven’t actually talked about an issue

    That ain’t true

    Enjoy your trip

  37. Tuerqas

Cuz you still haven’t talked about an issue with me you whiny fuck. And of course you knew I meant exactly that, but ignore it to continue being a twat. (Cue the whining about name calling to continue avoiding any interesting topic, even though you apparently disapprove even more of being called a f%^k). And you should feel privileged. You have likely received the last apology I will ever give for my declining eyesight.

And thanks, I had a great time. Been going to the same resort once a year for almost 60 years and this may have been the best yet.

Jason, I hope you had as good a time as I did.

  38. Jason

    >Jason, I hope you had as good a time as I did.

Door County was great as always. Took the truck over to Washington Island, we love spending time and money with the local small shop economies. I was surprised that gas prices were the same there as my home town.

  39. Jason

Oh shit. I really hope I didn’t doxx myself there… Eh Pengiun? * Eye roll *
