Here we see the Marxist mindset in action. There was a time when plagiarism was considered objectively bad. It is cheating. It is stealing someone else’s work. But in this era, plagiarism is only bad when done by certain classes of people. Other classes of people are allowed to do it. Further, if you point out that a person who is a member of a protected class is committing plagiarism, then you are now a bigot who is “attacking” them.
Make no mistake. Gay is a racist cheater and Harvard loves her for it.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The downfall of Harvard’s president has elevated the threat of unearthing plagiarism, a cardinal sin in academia, as a possible new weapon in conservative attacks on higher education.
Claudine Gay’s resignation Tuesday followed weeks of mounting accusations that she lifted language from other scholars in her doctoral dissertation and journal articles. The allegations surfaced amid backlash over her congressional testimony about antisemitism on campus.
The plagiarism allegations came not from her academic peers but her political foes, led by conservatives who sought to oust Gay and put her career under intense scrutiny in hopes of finding a fatal flaw. Her detractors charged that Gay — who has a Ph.D. in government, was a professor at Harvard and Stanford and headed Harvard’s largest division before being promoted — got the top job in large part because she is a Black woman.
Remember when the right complained about cancel culture… lol.
Gay got the job because she was in the Ivy league higher education system for 25 years. I looked at the plagiarism claims, and most are small phrases or technical phrases that really have nothing to do with the grander themes of her papers. Even the Free Beacon article states that some of the people she is accused of copying don’t agree that it amounts to academic plagiarism. Odds are she probably DID lift some phrases and quotes, some of it she didn’t think she had to cite, and some she probably thought wouldn’t be noticed.
Frankly I wouldn’t care about papers written decades ago, and more on how she was currently doing the job. Unfortunately, it seems like this was drawing attention away and making it difficult to do her job. It was probably the right move for her to resign because of the attention (NOT because of the copying).
No matter how many boxes you check, you can’t be the focus of a donor revolt. Money always speaks the loudest.
more on how she was currently doing the job. Unfortunately, it seems like this was drawing attention away and making it difficult to do her job.
“Doing the job.” You mean completely failing to answer simple questions about “from the river to the sea” chants?
I’m not a fan of Israel. But calling for its total elimination is Not Good. IOW, jonnyV, she is too damned stupid to “do her job.”
Dad29, “From the river to the sea” is a very interesting statement right now. It has it’s roots in elimination, but as we know words mean different things when different people say them. Many are just calling for the freedom of Palestine and NOT the elimination of Israel when they use that phrase.
She didn’t handle the congressional questioning well. But frankly, we all know that the only reason they were pulled in there is so that congress can pull stupid re-election quotes and make it look like they are doing something. Being careful with their words was imperative. because they were looking for a hook. And frankly they got it because of how they answered.
Oh. Well, that clears it up.
Allow me to repeat: too damned stupid Ms. Gay is. Same with the dummy from Penn.
A 25 year poli sci professor and Ivy League administrator should have had the skill set to breeze through a hostile congressional hearing. Or at least held her own. She didn’t. It’s fair to ask why.
>but as we know words mean different things when different people say them
Wow, that is on the nose. Like when Democratic politicians defined a protest rally as insurrection. Their rallies can turn into all kinds of riots, damage and even death, but if conservatives voice their dissatisfaction en masse that is insurrection! I know that to me, an insurrection would include attempts or at least plans to seize the reins of power. Same words, different people. Only a liberal would not know with 100% certainty that politicians used (and abused) the word ‘insurrection’ just so they could try to stop Trump from running again 4 years later.
Once upon a time a conservative could have a conversation or friendly debate with a liberal. Then the Dems/liberals hi-jacked the American language, changing or re-defining all the terms that did not support their arguments and voila, no one can have a civil conversation because the new definitions of old words like marriage, intelligentsia, racism or insurrection, etc. now have completely different meanings to different people. If we normal civilians start to agree on a term, politicians and their partisans change it to keep us separated and angry. No agreement is exactly what politicians strive for and anyone who can’t see that is a programmed zombie.
T, I think I would qualify a large group of people destroying gov’t property, stealing gov’t property, and breaking into a federal building as a little more than a “protest rally”. I don’t think it went as far as an insurrection, but I think you are leaving out a BIG area in between. I am happy that the people who participated are being punished, maybe a few of them a little STRONGLY for my tastes, but actual damage was done. I personally wouldn’t say Trump incited an insurrection, but he did incite a riot.
Language evolves and changes. Get on board or get left behind. Growing up I heard my grandparents use the N word, sometimes as a racist term, sometimes just referring to a black person with no ill intent behind it (IMO). That doesn’t make it right. What was considered racist in the 80’s might not have been in the 50’s. And things that are racist, sexist, homophobic, and able-ism now would not have been considered that way in the 80s. If you can’t live with that, there is no hope for you. Maybe you are best to just turn on Pluto.TV and watch old westerns until you pass away.
Maybe you are best to just turn on Pluto.TV and watch old westerns until you pass away.
Or maybe just go to the target range………..
a large group of people destroying gov’t property, stealing gov’t property, and breaking into a federal building as a little more than a “protest rally”.
The ones led by the Feds? The ones ushered into the building by Cap Cops? Gee. People who walked around, took pix, and left are being hunted down like dogs and put on trial–with serious jail time BEFORE the trial AND AFTER.
By the way, truth doesn’t change, nor does the language used to convey the truth. There is only one source of lies; be careful that you don’t get too friendly with him.
Dad29, your takes on the 1/6 riot are delusional. “Let by the Feds”. That is QAnon BS. “Ushered in by Cap Cops”. Maybe some, after watching some of the cops take severe beatings by the crowds. Unless you don’t believe that cap cops were attacked with flagpoles, punched, and stomped in front of the building. Sure, don’t believe your lying eyes or the video that was released. But, you can’t even admit that it happened.
Yes, some of the people are getting a raw deal. But frankly, I don’t really have a lot of empathy for them. They went someplace they shouldn’t have when they shouldn’t have been there. Bummer. Think before you act.
I don’t know what you are talking about with the source of lies… I don’t believe in fairy tales.
There goes Johnny’s putting his snobbish nose high in the air, trying to defend an liberal elite.
Maybe JohnnyV thinks he belongs with the liberal elite.
But I’m pretty sure, the liberal elite don’t care very small about JohnnyV. He’s a nothing compared to the liberal elite.
But JohnnyV thinks he belongs with liberal elite but in reality, the liberal elite doesn’t want him.
Mar, where did I defend anyone? I flat out said it was probably better she left. They got drug out in front of the congressional circus and she didn’t do a good job there.
And I have no idea what you are babbling about with the liberal elite.
“Frankly I wouldn’t care about papers written decades ago, and more on how she was currently doing the job.”
Oh, JohnnyV.
And she was doing her job horribly.
MAR
>There goes Johnny’s putting his snobbish nose high in the air, trying to defend an liberal elite.
BEEEP. Wrong!
There goes Johnny’s putting his snobbish nose high in the air, trying to defend an liberal elitists.
Fixed it for ya.

>T, I think I would qualify a large group of people destroying gov’t property, stealing gov’t property, and breaking into a federal building as a little more than a “protest rally”.
But it doesn’t count when talking about riot rallies in Portland or NYC, Baltimore, Minneapolis, or the ACT X protests in Madison etc ad nauseum. Those were all closer to insurrection (by its current meaning) than 1/6. 1/6 was a real protest rally about people believing the election was hi-jacked. The Dem lead ‘rallies’ were really just election campaign ads to get lazy Dems off their butts long enough to vote. Of course, that didn’t work so they forged a path to vote while on their asses and that worked.
JV, maybe you should accept your elitist moniker, stay on your ass and spend time considering your own TV watching patterns. Or maybe since ‘bitch’ is taking on more and more positive meanings, like ‘they are a b-a-a-a-d bitch’, we should just refer to you as our current ‘little bitch’ on the blog. it would be exactly as positive as you believe it to be…or just get left behind on MeTV.
Way back in HS I had a teacher who talked about people’s tendencies to follow the leader. I told him what I wanted to do and he said he would grade me on it (gotta love Mr Bast at WBW, he was a great man). I thought of the dumbest phrase i could think of and started calling people ermine lips as a friendly insult. It took 3 weeks before we were hearing it everywhere, even outside the High Schools. Thankfully, ermine lips died away before the internet really took hold so libs didn’t change the meaning of ermine, eh? The bottom line is that language patterns changing is part of life and I am good with that, until a group hi-jacks the power of words, redefining them for political ends. I call that bullshit and you a sheep.

That fam is everywhere! School busses, State Fair judging, doggie sales…..
