Google CEO Calls Gemini Debacle “Unacceptable”

Not a bad statement. I hope the reality matches the sentiment. I’m pessimistic that it will.

In a memo Tuesday evening, Google CEO Sundar Pichai addressed the company’s artificial intelligence mistakes, which led to Google taking its Gemini image-generation feature offline for further testing.

“I want to address the recent issues with problematic text and image responses in the Gemini app (formerly Bard). I know that some of its responses have offended our users and shown bias – to be clear, that’s completely unacceptable and we got it wrong.”

“Our teams have been working around the clock to address these issues. We’re already seeing a substantial improvement on a wide range of prompts. No AI is perfect, especially at this emerging stage of the industry’s development, but we know the bar is high for us and we will keep at it for however long it takes. And we’ll review what happened and make sure we fix it at scale.”

“Our mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful is sacrosanct. We’ve always sought to give users helpful, accurate, and unbiased information in our products. That’s why people trust them. This has to be our approach for all our products, including our emerging AI products.”

“We’ll be driving a clear set of actions, including structural changes, updated product guidelines, improved launch processes, robust evals and red-teaming, and technical recommendations. We are looking across all of this and will make the necessary changes.”

“Even as we learn from what went wrong here, we should also build on the product and technical announcements we’ve made in AI over the last several weeks. That includes some foundational advances in our underlying models e.g. our 1 million long-context window breakthrough and our open models, both of which have been well received.”

“We know what it takes to create great products that are used and beloved by billions of people and businesses, and with our infrastructure and research expertise we have an incredible springboard for the AI wave. Let’s focus on what matters most: building helpful products that are deserving of our users’ trust.”

A couple of years ago an NPR exec was fired for her derogetory commentsaabout consrvatives. now we see this with google’s AI, which is ultimately programmed by humans. Both of these are actually related and show how far extremist ideology has taken hold in this country.

These instances weren’t the result of rogue individuals taking extreme positions, they were the result of people working in environments where this is considered normal behavior and celebrated by their co-workers.

Not according to JV. It is all in our limited conservative imagination. There is no ‘they’ in liberal thought control models and programming. For instance, it is a total coincidence that the vast majority of people in the US think that the US population is 35-45% black, Nothing to do with TV, political activism and social network programming.

…………and every married couple is bi-racial and/or queer.

    Totes real!!

Google is now the US’ leading provider of mis-information!!! Google “crimes committed by illegal aliens” and you get “crimes committed AGAINST illegal aliens.”

Try it three ways, same result.

Until the jackwad who runs their AI op is fired, publicly and loudly, don’t count on any improvements from them.

Dad29, Firing the jackwad in charge does nothing. Google’s AI was programmed by many people. It was poisoned from creation. It’s not just the generated photos. Its bias runs to its very core. It was created by Legion, and they are many.

Yes, Billiam, it does “nothing,” but sends a message both internal and external. We know Google’s lean…..

If Google were serious about it, they’d fire ALL of the “team,” but that won’t happen.

Certainly a majority of googles employees are liberal.

AI is a big black box that even the creators barely understand. And this was a clearly a safeguard gone bad. What they are trying to do is include diversity. So when you ask it to “show you a CEO” it isnt always a white dude. Google has always tried to include diversity in their products. And getting the balance right is vital for Google.

If Sundar loses his job, it won’t be for this nothing burger. They are already losing this battle with OpenAI. And AI could kill their primary business… ads.

And you had the audacity (density) to ask me just who is programming you. The right to free thought is (was) free, but you agree that this sort of computer programming is necessary, warranted and good. If one can only look up the ‘positive’ liberal agenda and nothing else on Google, you are fine with it. Nooooo, you are not constantly being programmed to just trust and believe. For the record, I do not think you are truly dense, but you are certainly living in a fugue state of your own and your thought masters making.
