McDonald’s reportedly said it could not confirm claims made by either camps because its records do not extend back to when the vice-president would have served french fries to customers.

 

“We and our franchisees don’t have records for all positions dating back to the early 80s,” it said in an internal memo circulated to staff, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.

 

Ms Harris has also failed to provide anything more than a vague account of her time at the golden arches.

 

When The Telegraph visited branches in the area where she claimed to have worked, we found staff had been told they were not to talk about whether she had ever worked at McDonald’s.

It’s hilarious that the inept Harris campaign has fumbled this so badly. Trump did a very routine retail campaign stunt at McDonald’s. It was a “whatever” with some funny moments. The Harris campaign’s reaction was so ridiculously over the top that they look like humorless, bitter weirdos. The result is that we are entering our third day of free media coverage of Trump and now media organizations are digging into Harris’ claim to have worked at McDonald’s. This whole thing would have gone away in hours if Harris had responded with a simple, “good for Trump for seeing what it’s like for people who weren’t born a millionaire” or something and the world would have moved on. Instead, we get this.

On the claim itself, it is totally understandable that there aren’t any records. I had a couple of jobs in high school for which I doubt there is any record. And I can think of a couple jobs where I have no memory of my coworkers names. I couldn’t dig up a contemporary witness. But I could produce friends from that era who remember me working there, or, at least, remember me mentioning it in conversation for the last 30 years.

What’s odd with the Harris claim is that nobody seems to remember her mentioning her alleged McDonald’s experience before 2019 despite several political campaigns before then. It seems that she made the claim off the cuff at an event and has stuck to it ever since. Is it true? I don’t know, but it’s her burden to prove. Personally, I don’t think she did ever work at McDonald’s. She has a history of being a bullshitter and this looks like a little BS that got out and she can’t back it out.
