This was not a good day for American foreign policy.
After face-to-face talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Mr Trump contradicted US intelligence agencies and said there had been no reason for Russia to meddle in the vote.
Mr Putin reiterated that Russia had never interfered in US affairs.
The two men held nearly two hours of closed-door talks in the Finnish capital Helsinki on Monday.
At a news conference after the summit, President Trump was asked if he believed his own intelligence agencies or the Russian president when it came to the allegations of meddling in the elections.
“President Putin says it’s not Russia. I don’t see any reason why it would be,” he replied.
US intelligence agencies concluded in 2016 that Russia was behind an effort to tip the scale of the US election against Hillary Clinton, with a state-authorised campaign of cyber attacks and fake news stories planted on social media.
In a strongly-worded statement, US House Speaker Paul Ryan said Mr Trump “must appreciate that Russia is not our ally”.
Of course, we don’t know what was accomplished in private yet, but the public outcome of Trump’s meeting with Putin left a lot to be desired.
I’d have to agree, not one of Trump’s better moments.
(Don’t tell Nord I said that… :-))
Why aren’t you calling trump treasonous? Dismissing his own FBI, CIA, and NSA, yet believing putin. And trump doesn’t even read (not sure if he can) the daily intelligence briefings. History won’t be kind to trump and his supporters. And a whole lot of folks will be able to say, ” I told you so”.
I don’t think Trump believed what he said, but it’s pattern-Trump to make nicey-nice to the other guy.
So yah, it’s easily treason and let’s not bother with a trial in the Senate; let’s just execute the guy at dawn.
VIVA MIKE PENCE!!
The “body-language” critter is almost certain that Trump and Putin were not on great terms, in any case.
“Trump to make nicey-nice to the other guy”.
He sure didn’t do that with his allies, only with folks he is afraid of.
The CIA has been meddling in foreign elections since its inception. Most recently, Obama quite brazenly sent political operatives with a healthy budget to Israel to openly campaign against Netanyahu. Obama and the Democrats didn’t give a rat’s ass about known Russian meddling in our 2016 campaign season until the day after Hillary lost. Obama can do it but the Russians can’t?
We know the FBI can’t be trusted. Or the Justice Department. Or the IRS. Or BATF. Or anywhere John Brennan has ever parked his bony ass. Trump would have to be a complete simpleton to blindly trust his own intelligence agencies. That says more about the federal bureaucracies than it does about Trump.
Trump just got chucked in front of the entire world.
cucked
Putin swung and knocked it out of the park.
Don the Con appeased our greatest enemy. Taking the word of one of the most evil men in history over his own hand picked intelligence personal, blaming America, and basically apologizing, is a moment that will go down in history. The damage done to the US on the world stage will be difficult to undo.
I was wondering how/ if any patriot could defend what happened yesterday .
It appears that the only possibility is the Rand Paul
“Everybody does it “ excuse combined with a dash of “Trumps had picked intelligence advisors can’t be trusted “ and a pinch of “what aboutism “.
If you don’t think yesterday was a sad day for this country , you aren’t paying attention .
This was totally unexpected! Who could’ve predicted this would happen?
Nord,
I am not a wild eyed hick radical you are Nord. I take a level headed approach. You suffer from Trump derangement syndrome.
I welcome a President Pence, but you Democrats don’t have the numbers to make my wish happen.
I’m pretty sure that while there are some people legitimately concerned that Trump’s post meeting performance was damaging to the USA, the hysterical chorus of treason accusers and mortally wounded sunshine patriots is nothing more than a continuation of the slow rolling coup against the 2016 election results.
That’s just an observation by somebody who pays attention.
And now Don the Con attempts to walk back what he said yesterday by reading a statement given to him, but he then couldn’t stick to the prepared script.
This from the man who says he has the greatest brain, and knows the best words.
Thank God the majority of the public won’t fall for his BS.
That’s just an observation from somebody who pays attention.
Thank God the majority of the public won’t fall for his BS.
How much action do you want for 2020? A thousand or five?
d: The majority of those who voted in the presidential election in 2016 didn’t fall for his BS, so you really think it will get better? I’ll take some of that action in 2020.
k: I may live in a rural part of the state, but am no hick, nor radical. Calling folks names without the benefit of proof doesn’t enhance your credibility one iota, but does exhibit your ignorance for all to see.
m: Those “reason accusers” now include most of the R’s in congress.. Your point?

You know when George Will says this we are in trouble.
George Will is not now, and never has been, a beacon of light for anyone NOT interested in baseball or afflicted with a bow-tie fetish. But he always knew how to keep his pinky just-so while sipping his tea.
I’m sure you know that the “intel community’s assessment” was less than 50% certain by their own admission, Nordski. And I’m sure you know that the actual results of the meet-up will not be known for at least a few months, if not several years.
But both you and Geriatric Will have all that knowledge firmly under your control, eh? Just like Brennan the Perjurer and his brother Clapper the Perjurer, and all the other Luminaries–such as Comey–who utterly failed to prevent the Russkis from doing whatever they did.
You are not a hick. But you ARE stuck on stupid.
What’s Trump stuck on?
Nord,
Calling Trump “treasonous” over this meeting with Putin, is hick, fever, swamp radical.
By that measure, we should have executed Obama of Iran deal.
Well we know of three fellow comrades here that have fallen for Don the Cons BS, as expected.
k:
You really need to pay attention; I didn’t and won’t say that the meeting woth putin is treasonous, it is what he said afterwords regarding dismissing his own intelligence community while giving putin a pass. And now he is trying to walk back what he said. Try “double negative” on that combo.
Nord,
Our intelligence gathering community deserves criticism. Trump doing it the way he did, of course, was a blunder.
It does not rise to level of “treason”. Try poking your head out of the fever swamp.
If Trump surrendered to Russia or allowed Russia to annex your liberal fever swamp, that would be treason.
Obama was surrendering countries to every Islamic terrorist around the globe….THAT was treason.
If Obama had dissed those same folks in the same way you and yours would have been full throat “TREASON”.
And did you criticize the intelligence community when they led cheney/bush by the nose into Iraq? I sure hope so.
I know about about swamps, so define “fever swamp”, the vegetation, hydrology, and soils that make it a swamp. Words actually mean things out here in reality. Or is this just another over-used and incorrect buzz phrase dreamed up in the conservative echo chamber?
Nord, it’s like they’ve forgotten all the things they held as true about Obama.
jjf: Exactly.
It’s called “Trump Apologist Syndrome”.
Sure is. And the folks afflicted are those that can never admit they made a mistake.
Russia is not apreading like a plaque in western countries like Islamic terrorists.
That is why allowing Islamic terrorism to flourish in Western nantions and surrendering to it, like Obama did in Middle East, was treason.
Trump blundering criticism of his agency is not treason.
Get some perspective.
Nice deflection.
Pat:
We mere mortals have to remember the kevin knows all, sees all, and is the only being that knows the absolute truth. We should feel privileged to breath the same air that he does. Fortunately for me I am 100+ miles north of him, and ne’er the twain shall meet.
The Iran deal is something this administration can only dream of from NK .
The got zip from the NK , Kim stiffed Pompeo In the followup meeting. and they didn’t bother even to show up for the meetings on shipping the remains of Korean War vets .
As for Brennan and Clapper , they are Patriots
Who refuse to cow tow to knuckle dragging apologists for anything Trump does .
The cult is strong with this one .
Our American President showed exactly the way a “useful Idiot” Soviet asset performs with his handler and then pulls out the old double negative to explain why the “Summit “ was viewed as a disaster to anyone other than the smirking Putin.
Brennan and Clapper are both perjurers. That’s on tape for all to see.
As to the Intel Community’s brilliance……….where were they with 9/11? The Boston Marathon bomber? The Florida nightclub massacre? (I could go on, but there’s not enough time….)
For all Nordski’s International Relations expertise, it’s surprising that he wasn’t Kerry’s special assistant for everything. And Maley–whose wife is a College Prof!!!–could have been UN Ambassador, eh?
Oh, wait……
Dud,
Where did you get your expertise from?
Dad29, feel free to share your Secret Knowledge of Proper Intel process and procedure with us and the rest of the world, so you can prevent the next 9/11.
Crickets
As expected.
