Don’t Play Politics With Masks

Have you noticed that it is the people who support using the police power of the State to enforce a mask mandate who whine about “don’t make it political?” Using government to enforce something is, by definition, a political act. The people who want to be left alone are only making it political in opposition to the people who have already made it political.

“I’ve been governor. You can’t play politics. You’ve got to be thinking about the health of the people of the state,” Doyle said.

And it’s particularly rich coming from Jim Doyle. He had no qualms whatsoever about using the power of his office for political gains.

I’m especially taken aback by how insane liberals are about my “don’t ask” about medical exceptions to mask mandate on my door sign I posted.

Liberal are totally ape insane that I am not grilling people coming in without a mask to insure their “medical exception” is valid. They are openly arguing that parts of Berkshire Hathaway umbrella can ignore medical privacy laws! (Berkshire owns DQ brand.) When do you see any liberal arguing that parts of a giant multi-national corporation can ignore medical privacy laws? It’s like a Twilight Zone! That includes some libs that comment here!

I have been called “idiot”, “jerk” and other profane names by dripping, hate filled liberals in other chat groups for not taking the McD’s CEO approach where he indicates he will have his patrons arrested for not wearing mask, regardless of medical exception.

I try to be kind to my wonderful customers in this crazy environment, and liberal mask activists are foaming like they were bitten by zombies!

Liberals are far more dangerous than COVID in this environment.

I have heard people say “just wear a mask because it protects other people from getting infected especially if you don’t realize you are spreading the virus.”  Do you disagree with that?  Owen, are you wearing a mask?

Kevin, were those people also calling you profane names before the mask mandate?  Why do you think that was?  Have you ever called anyone a profane name like those you mention?

  3. Mar

I guess we are more civil here in Arizona. I’ve been to many stores whrther a mask is mandatory or not.
I have not seen anyone get upset if someone is not wearing a mask nor have I seen anybody who was asked about not wearing a mask by a store employee get upset.
I guess those of us who live in the most conservative area of the country have manners.

  4. Mar

And masks do not work. Show us some statistics that show wearing a mask is helping.

  5. Owen

Can you make the distinction between something being a good idea and using the violent power of government to mandate something? I think people engaging in casual sex should use a condom to prevent the spread of diseases. Should we declare a health emergency and have the governor require it?

  6. Randall Flagg

    Kevin:

I am saying there are no medical privacy laws that prohibit a business owner/employee from asking a customer why they are not wearing a mask.  I furnished sources to back that.

If you have sources that show differently, go ahead and share.

If you cannot, your sign is a lie.  Go ahead and keep it posted, it is not driving me insane.  I am just pointing out the lie.  That seems to bother you for some reason.

  7. Randall Flagg

Can you make the distinction between something being a good idea and using the violent power of government to mandate something?

I can.  I personally believe not having an abortion is a good idea, but the violent power of government should not be used to mandate no abortions.

  8. Randall Flagg

I guess those of us who live in the most conservative area of the country have manners.

    * A couple in Yuma was arrested after coughing on WalMart employees who would not let them in without mask.

  9. Owen

There we go. There are all kinds of good and bad ideas that should remain the realm of private discussion and decisions. Reasonable people can disagree of what rises to the level of needing government intervention.

  10. Randall Flagg

Reasonable people can disagree of what rises to the level of needing government intervention.

Yes they can.  But the people also elect officials to determine which of those disagreements should rise to the level of mandates and laws. Seatbelt laws are a good example.

In this case, the duly elected Governor of Wisconsin issued a mandate.  Other officials could easily overturn it but have not yet.  I don’t think they will because it is too close to the election and they are worried about blowback if they do.

  11. jjf

Can you make the distinction between something being a good idea and using the violent power of government to mandate something?

Sure, all the time.  Prefer it.  Just like you do.  And are you wearing a mask by choice?

I think people engaging in casual sex should use a condom to prevent the spread of diseases. Should we declare a health emergency and have the governor require it?

Presumably the sexing includes consent, and the condom is useful because it is successful in preventing those common sorts of infections and may help you last longer.

The mask helps slow the spread of this airborne infection and also helps us all last longer.  But you understand all this.

Do you feel the same about tuberculosis?  Polio?  Plague?  Ebola?

  12. Mar

Randall, I don’t live down there. They are a bunch of dumbass liberals down there. Especially in Maricopa County in the Phoenix area.

  13. Randall Flagg

Ah, Mar but your post said Arizona, not any specific area in Arizona.  Nice try though.

Oh, and Lively mentioned that she was a spokesperson for QAnon and the White House, and to call Donald Trump when she was in the store.  Clearly not a liberal.

  14. Mar

Randall, did you even read the article?
Sure, if you wear surgical mask or a wet wash cloth, it might help prevent the spread of the Chinese virus.
Since most everyone does not have access to surgical masks and wearing a damp wash cloth is impractical, what good does a mask mandate do? Wearing a paper mask or bandana does what exactly?

  15. Mar

Randall, both sides have insane people in their groups.
We have QAnon who are crazy.
You guys have Le Roi, jjf, Antifa and Black Lives Matters.

  16. jjf

Mar certainly read the story where it says:

The bottom line is that any mask that covers the nose and mouth will be of benefit.  “The concept is risk reduction rather than absolute prevention,” said Chin-Hong. “You don’t throw up your hands if you think a mask is not 100 percent effective. That’s silly. Nobody’s taking a cholesterol medicine because they’re going to prevent a heart attack 100 percent of the time, but you’re reducing your risk substantially.”

  17. Mar

Still, jjf, if you read the article, they are saying only certain types of masks help, which are not usually available to the public.
California has a strict mask order in most of the state. They are seeing spikes in areas that have mandatory masks.
    Explain that.
Explain how there there few, if any, Chinese virus spikes related to Walmart, Target, grocery stores and other places of businesses with a mask mandatory or not?
Tell me, how many spikes in the Chinese virus are related to NASCAR races that allow fans in? Most people there are not wearing masks.
As far as the cholesterol medicine example, is the government mandating someone take the anti-cholesterol medicine?

  18. Le Roi du Nord

    mar, you missed this part:

“The bottom line is that any mask that covers the nose and mouth will be of benefit.”

  19. jjf

No, Mar, the government isn’t violently forcing people to take their cholesterol medicine, as that wouldn’t have anything to do with the rapid spread of heart disease.

How’s Arizona doing with the virus?  Nothing to worry about?

  20. jjf

Mar says QAnon is crazy, and Wikipedia says they’re a far-right conspiracy group.  I wonder if there is a connection.

  21. Randall Flagg

    JJF:

I loved the progression in Mar’s posts:

Mar:  Everyone in the “conservative area” (Arizona) is civil
Me:  Here are some examples of Arizona not being gcivil:
Mar:  That’s not where I live plus they are liberals
Me:  No they are Trump supporters.  Look at what they said.
Mar:  Both sides have insane people

Notice he never admits he is wrong, just moves the goalposts.

  22. Kevin Scheunemann

    Randall,

I asked you if parts of Berkshire umbrella can ignore medical privacy laws?

  23. jjf

And then Mar will say he’s not racist you must be the real racist.

  24. dad29

I don’t think they will because it is too close to the election and they are worried about blowback if they do.

If that were true, Fitz would never have said that he’s ready to call the Senate into session.  (You know that Fitz had already talked to his people  and the deal is done.)  Vos–who AFAIC is a dirtball–is playing games here but he has a HUGE majority (2-1 approx) and can afford to lose a few seats.

He just wants something for the trouble.

  25. jjf

Vos–who AFAIC is a dirtball–is playing games here

Stop flirting with me!  We all know that if you had the chance, you’d vote for him.

Culver’s , McDonalds and soon Baskin Robbins in WB are great places to buy ice cream .

None try to sell their own political opinions and Mc Donald’s and Culver’s don’t turn their Covid policies over to their teenage employee’s

Beware the man who knows what God thinks .

  27. Jason

I’ve posted this before and it has been pointedly ignored by Foust and Leroy… who are active here.

    https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/5/19-0994_article

    >Although mechanistic studies support the potential effect of hand hygiene or face masks, evidence from 14 randomized controlled trials of these measures did not support a substantial effect on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza.

    Hmmmm, science and all that.

  28. Jason

Can they handle more science? I dont think so, I’m a mind reader after all

    https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/10/20-0948_article

    >In 2015, we conducted a randomized controlled trial to compare the efficacy of cloth masks with that of medical masks and controls (standard practice) among healthcare workers in Vietnam (4). Rates of infection were consistently higher among those in the cloth mask group than in the medical mask and control groups.

  30. Jason

That doesn’t disprove a thing jjf. You constantly say you’re a science and fact guy, you’re being dishonest to quote that.

    Science is science.

  31. Jason

    >The available data is incomplete and more studies need to be done to better understand whether masks are effective at reducing community transmission or not

But yet in the meantime we will mandate every American above the age of 5 will wear a mask, patriotism and all that. Feel goodness and all that. Science and all that. The CDC and every person who says “wear a mask for your nana” is a hypocrite and are discrediting themselves.

  32. Jason

    >Herp de derp doo doo!

And just look at who started the degrading and insulting word salad today. Little Johnny Neck Beard himself. Fucking hypocrite pussy that he is.

  33. jjf

“The kicker is,” he added, “just weeks later, a group with the same senior author, plus some coronavirus specialists, produced a paper demonstrating that masks are indeed highly effective in stopping infected people from releasing airborne viruses.”

Them thar’s some pow’rful bar-room taunts!  You must be right!

  34. Jason

The paper referenced by that “kicker”…

    Abstract
We identified seasonal human coronaviruses, influenza viruses and rhinoviruses in exhaled breath and coughs of children and adults with acute respiratory illness. Surgical face masks significantly reduced detection of influenza virus RNA in respiratory droplets and coronavirus RNA in aerosols, with a trend toward reduced detection of coronavirus RNA in respiratory droplets. Our results indicate that surgical face masks could prevent transmission of human coronaviruses and influenza viruses from symptomatic individuals.

Note the copious mentions of “surgical face masks”. Apples and oranges jjf.
