Here we go. This is a good example of how the media works to shape the narrative for the express purpose of swaying elections to Democrats.
A clear majority of Americans believe there is more violent crime in the U.S. today than in the 1990s, according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll — even though today’s violent crime rate is much lower than it was 30 years ago.
This common misperception doesn’t come out of nowhere: U.S. homicides rose by about 25 percent between 2019 and 2020 — the largest single-year increase since reliable tracking began in 1960 — and 2021 has seen a similar year-over-year jump, due in large part to gun violence.
Yet as disturbing as it is, America’s pandemic-era murder spike has not yet lifted the overall violent crime rate to anything approaching its early-1990s peak, or even the level to which it fell by the end of that decade. The fact that 56 percent of Americans now believe otherwise, according to the poll, underscores how challenging it has become to keep crime rates in perspective at a time when viral media and political polarization are making valid concerns feel like unprecedented emergencies — and how quickly and easily the politics of crime could become untethered from reality in the run-up to the 2022 midterm elections.

The question now is whether such misperceptions are getting worse — and how that widening gap might distort the politics and policy of crime going forward.

The Yahoo News/YouGov poll supports the notion that concerns about violent crime are outpacing its actual prevalence. A majority of Americans (52 percent) now describe “violent crime” as a “very big problem” in the United States — far more than the share who said the same last month about the coronavirus pandemic (36 percent), race relations (39 percent) or the economy (41 percent).
Make no mistake: After decreasing for decades, violent crime is up substantially and has become a major issue in a number of places in the U.S., particularly in communities of color. But we’re still far off from the level of violence seen 30 years ago.
There is nothing factually incorrect in the information presented. But ask yourself, “why is this in the news?”
Crime – particularly violent crime – has risen dramatically in the last year or so. This is a problem for Democrats who are up for election this year and next. Not only are they on record supporting idiotic mantras like “defund the police,” they have a decades-long history of supporting soft-on-crime policies, open borders, and the decriminalization of various things. The polls are showing that crime is becoming a serious issue for voters and they largely see Republicans as better on crime issues than Democrats.
In jumps the media to the rescue… the entire point of this poll and the story is to try to tell us that crime isn’t really that bad. After all, it was much worse 30 years ago. We just don’t remember it right and are blowing the issue all our of proportion. Right? You are overreacting if you think crime is a real problem. You should really be more worried about things like global warming, race issues, or any other issue that Democrats like.
No, you are not nuts if you are worried about crime. Yes, crime has risen dramatically. Yes, it was worse 30 years ago, but that doesn’t make it OK. The fact that crime is so much worse than it was 3 years ago is a huge problem. We are going in the wrong direction and we do not need to wait for it to reach the proportions of 1990 before being concerned about it.
Promoting cultural degradation is what Democrats do and they’re very, very good at it. The gullibility of their flock is nothing short of incredible. The lemmings continue to march in lockstep down the path of misery as though they’re afraid to leave their abusers.
Another way the media reports on crime is not to report on crime, especially crime in inner cities. Unless it a heinous crime, most media especially jsonline, it doesn’t get mentioned or barely mentioned and then forgotten.
To get more info, you have to rely on online sources, including some social media or listen to the police scanner.
Merlin, it is called programming and ‘according to science’ programming is highly effective on the weak willed and lazy, not incredible at all.
Step 1 program liberal ideals as fact in schools
Step 2 funnel the programmees into preset data centers for current data (MSM, Facebook)
Step 3 Profit! In the form of consistent Democrat votes.
You will see virtually no black murderers in MSM because it is contrary to programming. Inner city crime is ignored unless a race event can be interpreted from the data (virulence or heinousness is generally not a consideration). Democrat favored riots are ‘peaceful’ marches, demonstrations or at worst the occasional minor riot while a conservative based riot is a revolt classified as treason with pretty much every Republican and conservative in America culpable because ‘them bumpkins all believe the same things, doncha know’. It is much like the liberal definition of institutionalized racism. Liberals will cry ‘institutionalized racism’ pointing at Republicans even as they are the primary practitioners in every major city Government in the US. And the programmees repeat what they are told by their ‘trusted’ sources.
At first, I thought this, from Don Surber, was quite extreme but the more I thought about it, the more sense it makes: For example, Lori Lightfoot presides over Chicago, which through Tuesday had 428 murders. Most victims are black. The odds of a murder being solved are 1 in 6 in Chicago. That is based on the number of homicide cases cleared each year. If her highness cared, she would make a priority of punishing the murderers of black people. She would order police to crack down on the murders. She would be in black neighborhoods encouraging people to cooperate with investigations.
Instead she stays in white and upscale black neighborhoods because they are safe. Criminals have a longstanding understanding with Chicago Democrats that police will look the other way in return for favors and kickbacks, provided they stay out of white and upscale black neighborhoods.”
So far this year, 2371 people have been shot in Chicago, with 433 murders. Probably 90% happen on the Southside, in about 5 or 6 neighborhoods.
And the politicians do worse than nothing. They don’t saturate those areas with cops, they rary ever prosecute minor crimes and make excuses like Covid.
There is systemic racism and it is liberal racism at work here.
Uh, yeah! That is the correlation between the consistent statistic of 85-90% of blacks are killed by other blacks each year per FBI records that I periodically bring up. Despite approximately 88% of black victims being killed by other blacks each year we hear details about maybe one black on black killing in a full year of reporting, usually either kid victims or perpetrators, or if the gunman is originally suspected of being white. Yet we hear months of coverage about multiple black people killed by policemen. And the people programmed to receive this data are convinced that these few police murders of minorities are the greater percentage of black killings, they are due to racism and they are virtually the entire problem concerning inner city violence. Like, if those policemen would just be nicer to the murderous black criminals and criminal organizations, the inner city neighborhoods would be mostly healed.
The other stat that I cannot seem to get people to hear is that 45-50% of all murders in the US are done by repeat killers year over year. So Dems also agree to put’em back out there if they do something stupid and get caught. That number would not be possible if we left killers behind bars or used the death penalty. Just think, we could cut homicides in half just by keeping murderers off the street after they have been caught the first time.
Just YESTERDAY in Chicago: 8 shootings PLUS 2 “mass shootings”. IIRC, one fatality but there could be more…..
Another trick of the “compared to” lie: find the highest crime years available…..then run the comparo. It’s the same garbage they throw into “climate change.”
Of course, taking records from 10-20 years ago means nothing.
10-20 years ago, we didn’t have as good of paramedic system or trauma centers in the US. If we had the same system 10-20 years ago, the number of murders would be a lot higher than they are now.
And 10-20 years, people would settle their arguments, debts, revenge with their fists or baseball bats. Now, they shoot them in them in the butt, legs and arms.
