Whether or not one agrees with the activists’ message, there is a time and a place. I don’t want to have to support activism or make a political statement just to order a sandwich. I just want a dang sandwich. Hold the onions.
Owners of Subway franchises are asking the company’s bosses to pull adverts featuring soccer star Megan Rapinoe, because customers are complaining about her political activism.
Rapinoe, 36, is as well known for her outspoken views and purple hair as she is for her soccer skills.
In Tokyo for her third Olympics, Rapinoe took a knee during the National Anthem, before their bronze-winning game.

At the end of July, a Wisconsin franchise operator shared a note from an angry customer with a discussion forum hosted by the North American Association of Subway Franchisees (NAASF).
The note, taped to his door, read: ‘Boycott Subway until Subway fires the anti-American Megan Rapinoe, the creep who kneels for our beloved National Anthem!’
The Wisconsin owner said: ‘The ad should be pulled and done with. It gets tiring apologizing.’
Subway does not own any of its nearly 22,000 locations, but it charges franchisees 4.5 per cent of their revenue for a national advertising fund, and controls how the money is spent from its Connecticut headquarters.
An Arizona owner said on the NAASF blog: ‘Spending our money to make a political statement is completely and totally out of bounds.’
.. but not Steph Curry?
I for one dropped Subway for Jersey Mike’s because of the ad and because Jersey Mike’s is better.
I found the ad to be tasteless, bordering on bullying.
But then I don’t have the sense of humor liberals have.
Get woke! Go Broke! Ben and Jerry’s learning hard waty as well.

I feel sorry for good, God fearing, conservative Subway franchisees caught in the web of disgusting left wing corporate under Subway unbrella. Leftism is awful. Just awful!
What a bunch of cancel culture “conservatives “. What about having “outspoken views and purple hair” deserves your wrath? You folks are anti free speech once again.
You’re missing my point, Nord. I’m not saying cancel her. She can do whatever she wants. What I am saying is that I do not want to participate in a world where I am forced to make some sort of social justice statement just to eat a sandwich. I JUST WANT TO EAT A SANDWICH.
I get that Owen, what I was commenting on was k’s usual rant about “leftism is awful”.
But when you buy a roll of Georgia-Pacific made toilet paper are you concerned about participating in the Koch brothers political activism? Or do you just want toilet paper?
Or when you buy shingles at ABC supply are you concerned about their ultra conservative activism? Or do you just want a bundle of shingles?
And Pervert Boy Le Roi adds nothing to the conversation but still loves his liberal pervert judge who watches movies where a baby boy is being raped.
You are a very sick perverted asshole, Pervert Boy Le Roi.
And no, I am not concerned about conservative activities.
But I am concerned about liberal activism because they are out to destroy the US.
I am also concerned about about baby rapists but obviously you support them.
How much are your NAMBLA yearly dues?
Don’t know why the purple hair freak is so important.
She was part of a team that lost to a high school boys soccer team.
Subway could have picked Carli Lloyd, who does not kneel with the other racists and freaks like the purple hair freak on the the USWNT.
But Subway chose not too.
Screw Subway.
I don’t really care. I don’t pick my toilet paper or my subs because of their advertising. I listen to music I like and movies in the genres I like because they sound good or are good. The actor’s political views have zero weight (I wouldn’t watch a dumbass Moore movies if my favorite actor was in it because then their views are IN the movie and it likely wouldn’t appeal to me. As long as Rapinoe/Subway doesn’t incorporate her views IN the commercial or at the store, I could care less. If I stopped eating Subway, it would be the owners and employees that would suffer far more than the corp owners making the questionable decisions.
Was there any activism in the commercials? I did not notice any, but I could have missed it. And if there wasn’t Owen, what you really should be saying is “I just want to see the dang Olympics.” The only actual connection to activism was using Rapinoe in the commercial in the first place, right?
Tuerqas, why did choose the purple hair freak? They could have opted for Carli Lloyd who did not kneel.
But Subway, by choosing her, were telling over half the country to go screw themselves. They are playing to the small minority woke, mostly white, liberal crowd.
So screw Subway.
And in the commercial, the purple hair freak also acts like a physical bully, so there’s that as well.
Mar, I am not saying they didn’t choose her because of her beliefs, I am saying I don’t care. Just like I would not choose the pizza Shaq promotes because Shaq promotes it. I would choose it because I like it the best. And personally I would say Subway is propping liberals, not dissing conservatives. I am fully with the “It was a stupid move on Subway’s part to choose her” crowd, but as with being a conservative and not a Republican, I don’t choose the products I use with my politics. I don’t believe politics should define every detail of my life and I don’t let it. Now if Rapinoe started her own line of something and used her politics to promote it, I would never try it in the first place simply because I try not to let politics (especially the false politics of today) guide my every day activities.
Well, Tuerqas, the tie goes to the consumer.
I think Jersey Mike’s and Cousins is better anyways.
But my taste palette pretty much sucks as I used to be a volunteer firefighter and my taste buds went for good food has gone a long time ago.
That you think they are better is exactly why you should buy from them, whether it is taste, cost, or even political view if that is your go to reason for consumer buying. I buy Cousins or Subway, but my normal first choice is Jimmy Johns. I like that Subway allows full choice of toppings, but I can’t stand the idea that their bread is considered cake in other countries. That is why I rarely go there anymore, I am recently type 2 diabetic and I consider where the sugar comes from now. Sugar sodas and hidden sugars are places I now try hardest to avoid. Did you know that Special K has more grams of sugar than Cap’n Crunch?
Tuerqas, I probably would like Jimmy John’s, but I have had a couple of bad experiences at 2 different places, contacted their corporate office with no response.
So, they on my shit list.
Nord,
You pick things people find reprehensible….there is blowback.
Megan Rapinoe is reprehensible in many of her view.
So why is MR “reprehensible “? The color of her hair? Do you find anyone with unnatural hair color reprehensible?
Obviously, Pervert Boy Le Roi has reading comprehension problems again.
What an uneducated moron.
