Tragic. Our soft on crime policies are not helping. And our open border is a pipeline of death.
MADISON (WKOW) — The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) has issued a public health advisory about fentanyl’s presence in overdose deaths.
State health officials said there were 651 fentanyl overdose deaths in Wisconsin in 2019. By 2021, that nearly doubled to 1,280.
That’s a stark reversal of a pre-pandemic trend, when Paul Krupski, DHS’s Director of Opioid Initiatives, said Wisconsin actually recorded a decrease in opioid deaths.

I’m sure the smooth brained idiot will continue to say that it’s a budgetary issue and not a “soft on crime policy” issue.
Recognize–first off–that all this fentanyl noise is happening at THIS TIME because Sponge-Brain Shits-Pants sent oodles of “relief” money to Evers and Evers wants to spend it on his pals who will solve all these problems with just another 20,000 unionized social workers.
Fentanyl was a problem a year ago, too, remember? But that was too far away from an election.
Speaking of unionized federal workers. There’s 87,000 newbies at the IRS coming at your pocketbook for eternity.
The Legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance has delayed the Evers administration’s spending plan for $31 million in settlement funds to combat the state’s opioid epidemic.
DHS received its first $6 million payment on July 29 to begin using immediately, while the remaining $25 million is expected by the end of the calendar year.
Committee members had until Wednesday to anonymously object to the DHS’ plan.
Committee co-chairs state Rep. Mark Born, R-Beaver Dam, and state Sen. Howard Marklein, R-Spring Green, released a statement after the committee objected to the plan.
“We will swiftly improve the plan to promptly distribute these funds to help combat the opioid crisis that continues to ravage our state.”
Doesn’t seem to be a budgetary issue, ’cause there is that money readily available. The cynic in me says this appears to be more of a political thing – as long as Evers is Governor the WI-GOP is happy to see headlines just like the one in this post. Hopefully I am wrong about that – ’cause nothing would make me happier then if the GOP actually does “swiftly improve the plan”. But odds are that Vos et al won’t allow any such thig to happen until after the election, if at all.
Penquin, there is nothing the state can do as long as their is an open border and allowing cartels to run the border.
With almost 1 million gotta ways in the past year or, many probably carry drugs.
In Arizona, the cops but a lot of people every week, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg.
As long as the Border Patrol, under the orders of Senile Joe Biden and his puppeteers, continues to let thousands of people a day to cross the border illegally.
Prohibition caused this fentanyl-overdose epidemic for the same reason that those who smuggle alcohol into a sporting event prefer flasks to a 12-pack. When a substance has to be smuggled, the smuggler prefers the highest potency, smallest version. During alcohol prohibition, beer and wine almost disappeared from the market. And while spirits accounted for about 40% of alcohol sales before prohibition, that jumped to 90% after. The price of beer also rose an estimated 700%.
This is called the iron law of prohibition, and it works against the most optimistic goals of prohibitionists. Crack down on smuggling at the border and you won’t decrease the number of users, you’ll just increase the potency of the drug. Compulsive drug users aren’t suddenly “cured” by a lack of supply because prohibition primarily changes the nature of the drug supply, not whether the drug is available

With that said, look at how tight the “borders” of our prisons are while any/all drugs are still readily available within the walls of most of them. Unless you’re gonna put our country on a much tighter lockdown than the prisons, I don’t think it is gonna accomplish the desired goal.
Going back to the posted article, most of the deaths are happening because people are unaware that the drug they desire has been adulterated with fentanyl. We saw this exact same type of problem when liquor was banned in America, and we’ll continue to see these overdose deaths happen until heroin is re-legalized.
Cato is a collection of nutbags who call themselves “Libertarians” because it sounds really classical.
“Nutbag” has the advantage of being accurate.
But Biden won’t close the border since fentanyl is largely a product of Red China–he’s probably getting 10%, as is his custom.
Punkquin’s source…. Is an opinion piece, nothing more.

THAT is a hole in one statement. One can say that Evers isn’t addressing anything before election year and you would be right, but that is a WI Republican playbook staple as well, so BFD.
Like young teenagers at a fair, all the money is being spent on garbage until the children have a parent join them. When the parent leaves, the profligacy continues unabated. With few exceptions, State and federal Government is the same except the ‘children’ have the taxpayer parents credit cards and are pocketing some of the money themselves instead of just spending their own money on the garbage. When the taxpayer parents again have no say for a few years, it will just go on unabated.
Like most politicians Vos moves in response to pressure more so than of his own volition. I’m not sure we know yet what, if anything at all, moves LeMahieu. Michels better be prepared to wear out several pairs of boots on these guys. Performance expectations are going to be very high.
