A Menasha man whose engagement recently ended armed himself with two handguns and shot four people at close range on the Fox Cities Trestle Trail bridge, Menasha police said at a press conference. He then shot himself in the head.
It is one of the deadliest shootings in the Fox Cities’ history.
The dead include 33-year-old Johnathon Stoffel and his daughter, 11-year-old Olivia Stoffel. They died at the scene. His wife, Erin Stoffel, underwent surgery at Theda Clark Medical Center and is listed in critical condition. The Stoffel family is from Neenah.
The fourth victim is Adam Bentdahl, 31, of Appleton. He also died at the scene.
More killing. What an absolute shame.
Evil exists.
This is why concealed carry is a good thing. If there would have been a hero like in Utah carrying. This may have ended with only the evil doer being dead.

We have found common ground on another issue and I want to try and find something we can agree on with this issue. I don’t take issue with concealed carry and have thought about getting mine. I agree this was an evil act. I would like to see the killing stop (good and evil). Besides for disarming America (not a good idea) society has to consider other options. This country is capable of doing so much. We should focus all of our energy and resources to end the violence. I know that is a simplistic and naive statement. It’s a very complicated issue but one we could tackle if we were committed. Conrad Black has some incite and possible remedies. Nothing will be 100% but this is out of control.
Your statement is ideal and I’m sure everyone embraces it as a solution, even me.
However, we live in a sinful, not utopian, world and we need to support those doing good, and sometimes defeating and destroying evil in difficult situations.

I understand your view. I do support those protecting us and would say deadly force is sometimes necessary. However, we can not continue down this unsustainable path. We need to deal with the underlying issues. Property, addiction, mental illness and inadequate education. Until we do so the killing will continue and the divide between good and evil will continue to grow. The greater the divide the more innocent (good) lives will be lost. To tell you the truth I don’t think we “differ” that much. Maybe, we just have a differing method of expressing our views and ultimate goal.
