Good. One less nanny group to advocate for more restrictive government.
Health First Wisconsin, formerly SmokeFree Wisconsin, closed Sunday, according to an announcement Wednesday on the Madison-area nonprofit organization’s website.
Founded in 2000, SmokeFree Wisconsin helped pass Wisconsin’s indoor smoking ban, which in 2010 prohibited smoking in bars, restaurants, private clubs, schools, hotels, clinics and other workplaces. The group changed its name and expanded its mission in 2011 to prevent alcohol abuse and promote nutrition and physical activity.
It was just an umbrella group front for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and their ilk. They’ll probably form a new one, if they haven’t already.
