There has been a notable decline in the quality of debate. I just assumed it was me getting older and less patient with stupidity.
Much attention has been given to the non-college-educated voters who rallied to Trump. Insufficient attention is given to the role of the college miseducated. They, too, are complicit in our current condition because they emerged from their expensive “college experiences” neither disposed nor able to conduct civil, informed arguments. They are thus disarmed when confronted by political people who consider evidence, data, and reasoning to be mere conveniences and optional.
Sounds like your resident dissenter posting under an anonymous name. We’re just supposed to believe what is written and not question it or the author… lol.
Practically everyone on here is “anonymous”, including the guy who just whined about anonymous people. As said before, it is a pretty weak-sauce argument to make and reeks of desperation. And have the few people who uses a full name actually been verified as being those people? If not, then we’re all kinda anonymous….no?
And it ain’t just you Owen – things have been getting worse and worse in the past few years and I really don’t see it getting any better anytime soon. “Divide & conquer” is a very real concept being used against the American public, and it sure seems to be working pretty well for the powers-that-be.
Penquin,
Hilarious. The guy that hides behind a screen name accusing the guy who uses his real name of hiding?
You will note my picture on my posts here matches my Facebook page. I can lead the horse to water, but I can’t make you drink the obvious.
I’ve been debating liberals for over 25 years….there is only one universal debate constant when fighting the culture war against big government and liberal cultural perversion of God and Country….once the intellectual conservative point has trumped the liberal, it is all about the savage personal attack to discredit the anti-liberal messenger. Liberalism is all about discrediting, personally, those who believe in limited government, God, and Country. Liberalism has no absolute truth, morality, or coherent social code. Liberalism is an enemy to freedom, liberty, and humanity. It’s only intellectual argument in the ongoing liberal effort to destroy basic human rights is the personal attack.
That is the problem.
Pen:
No ego problem there, eh? Just the typical and repetitive, “liberal bad-kevin good, liberal dumb-kevin smart” playlist. No nuance, no gray areas, no compromise, and most disturbing, no interest in acquiring new knowledge or ideas. Guess it is back to the dark ages.
You’re assuming I have Facebook, which I don’t. And it wouldn’t matter…as pointed out years ago on this board, anybody/everybody can use any any name at all in these comments…there is no “internet ID” being used. If a lack of photo ID means it is easy for voters to cheat at the polls then certainly that would apply here…no?
You seem to keep assuming I am a “liberal”, which is also untrue. You also assume that “Penquin” is just a screen name rather one that is also used in the “real” world, which is also a false assumption on your part.
Also, it should be noted that my comments about anonymous posters was not an attack against anybody at all…you and Jason were the ones who first started slurring people about hiding behind “fake” names…rather just pointing out the folly of what you two guys (same guy with two names?) are saying about so-called anonymous commentators.
@Nord – You’re right about all that. He defines “liberal” as “anyone that Kevin disagrees with” and doesn’t seem to have a firm base/foundation for his opinions. I ain’t quite convinced he isn’t really some sort of Moby, but on the other hand his behavior is pretty typical for quite a few zealots (on both the left and the right) so I’m gonna keep assuming he means what he says.
OMG, this is too funny. Yes, I am a deplorable and while I cling to my guns and religion, I will never forget:
When a woman wears leather clothing, a man’s heart beats quicker, his throat gets dry, he goes weak in the knees and he begins to think irrationally. Ever wonder why?
She smells like a new truck.
Get it?
penquin,
If you favor a policy where we spend DOUBLE on kids education vs. a more cost efficient, better quality, voucher option….that is liberal.
It is possible for you to largely embrace conservative policies and take a liberal position. I usually use “liberal” to describe policy position, but many take it as a personal offense…can’t help that.
For instance, I’m liberal on CFPB. I think big banks have a lot of misrepresentation and fraud on many issues…however, many good conservatives have come out against predator payday lenders like Glenn Grothman.
You assume the voucher system is better and more cost efficient overall – it is not an established fact.
And actually you usually use “liberal” as a slur against others rather than discussing a policy. That is something you can help, if you wanted to.
What about “leftist” ? “Marxist”?
Verboten as well?
I find it interesting the profanity that has been used to describe me gets barely a wink, but I use word liberal…and that is a “slur”.
This delicate snowflakism is difficult to figure out….never know what is the offense du jour.
